This to the max. The Detroit media has been bitching and moaning since Dantonio got here about how little information he gives out. They need to just shut the fuck up, realize that he doesn't need to tell them jack shit, and be grateful for the fact that he's even willing to talk to them.

Yet they all sucked off Carr and he would barely speak to the media let alone divulge detailed information.

  • If anything, the article demonstrates that the writer lacks context, intelligence and talent.

In order, he clearly lacks context, as shown by his comments regarding Norman. If he had any credibility, he would have known Norman was injured and held out during the Spring. And additionally, that he has been injury prone throughout his career. Based on these facts and Norman's experience in the program, he could have deduced that Norman was held out as a precaution, as he really doesn't need the reps or risk of further injury.

As far as intelligence, he clearly cannot comprehend a simple statement, which he attempts to mischaracterize as backtracking or coach speak. Coach Dantonio said he wanted the team to play with more enthusiasm, not that they didn't play with enthusiasm. There is a significant difference. And I'm not sure either one is disconcerting to a reasonable person, anyway. Since Coach Dantonio later defines enthusiasm as excitement/swagger/happiness, if anything, he was suggesting that the team was too business-like, when he wanted more enjoyment.

Finally, his talent--or lack thereof. His article suffers the problem his article attempts to deride; it's lack of substance. In the end, the article essentially complains about 'coach-speak,' scrimmage stats and injury reports, all things he--or a terrible Seinfeld reference--defines as "nothings." Nevertheless, he painstakingly breaks down an entire media session into its non-substantive parts, and then--ironically--writes an article about the things he finds irrelevant. These things are so useless I'm going to write about them. Strange tact, no doubt.

And despite it all, I have seen several article and discussions about information resulting from the press release and interviews. Rather than contribute to those discussion, he turned in an article that turned the nothings into a nothing. It's pretty hard to clear the low bar set by the Detroit rags, yet this doofus managed to never get off the ground.

  • its started, first question:

Jeff, do you feel the Sports Media in this State are reporting and editorializing on the off the field incidents at MSU and Michigan in the same way? In previous incidents and present incidents.

    and his response

You know, I've just not spent much time thinking about it. I know people think there is a difference between MSU and Michigan coverage. But i have to be honest, I've never compared it.

  • Jebus, these next two weeks are fricken so critical to teams I can't believe coaches even take the time to talk to anyone. This week you're not only settling on your depth chart, being surprised by some, gettin disappointed by others, but you're starting to game plan. The whole thing should be on lock down. This idiot doesn't realize that about d1 football and what time of year it is. I wish Dantonio would just walk in and say "we blocked and tackled today, we ran some plays, some looked good, some didn't. Oh, and I won't talk about players because we're working on depth charts all week and we don't know.". Then, if they ask about injuries he should just stair at them till the next stupid question is asked

  • If Coach tells you that I missed scrimmage, then that's that. I may have missed one scrimmage this year but if somebody says he missed one scrimmage of all the scrimmage this year, then that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told Coach that you don't have to give the people of East Lansing a reason to think about trading me or anything like that. If you trade somebody, you trade them to make the paper better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in East Lansing deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that ... If I can't scrimmage, I can't scrimmage. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about scrimmage. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about scrimmage. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about scrimmage, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about scrimmage. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last but we're talking about scrimmage man. How silly is that? ... Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about scrimmage. We're talking about scrimmage man. We're talking about scrimmage. We're talking about scrimmage. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about scrimmage. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about scrimmage right now. ... Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too, hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about scrimmage man, we're not even talking about the game, when it actually matters, we're talking about scrimmage... How the hell can I make the reporters better by scrimmaging?

  • If Jeff was bewildered by this fairly straightforward release from MSU I can only imagine the confusion that poor guy has to deal with in his daily life.

Do I eat the deodorant stick or use it to wipe my ass? Does the gas pump go in the gas tank or do I just spray it on the wind shield and trust it ends up in the correct place? How about that rusted hubcap in the garage, is that an appropriate toy for a small child?
