I don't get the Beliema love. Would never trade MD for BB.

I'd honestly rather have Slappy running our program again than bulimbecile. Personal animosity aside, the guy is a TERRIBLE game coach.

Include my personal dislike for him as a (failure of a) human being, and I'd rather have a bucket of warm spit.

He lost more than just Cryst this off season...we'll see how he does with a pretty large staff turnover.

I think there will be an adjustment period, how long that period will be will tell us how good a coach BB really is.

Yep. It was actually pretty impressive for MSU to have another 11 W season after losing Treadwell. It'll be a heck of a test once Narduzzi leaves.

Wisconsin has to go to Nebraska in their first Big 10 game this year. That, along with MSU - tOSU, is going to go a long way towards determining the Legends rep. Neither Nebraska or MSU can afford to lose cross-over games because Michigan only has 1 tough cross-over (tOSU), while Wisconsin is relatively safe knowing that tOSU is ineligible for post-season play.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • I'm a Wisky fan, so take this with a grain of salt if you will: I think one of the more important aspects of BB's recent success that is often overlooked is the type of kid he recruits. Given that the program isn't sexy enough to draw 5-star prima donnas, he's obviously had to focus on finding diamond-in-the-rough types. But beyond that, he's done a great job of finding undervalued kids who also are willing to buy into program, work hard, stay eligible and stay out of trouble (knock on wood; cue recent Montee Ball shenanigans). In short, good kids, bright kids, hard working kids. Say what you want about him being numbskull, the kids in the program have largely represented the university very well. I think the recent success of the program has hinged, by in large, on having a bunch of lunch pail kids all on the same page, all working toward a common goal. Blah blah blah. Sounds trite, but it's something I give BB a ton of credit for.

Sounds just like Bo Ryan.... expect Beliema is fat. And from what I have seen doesn't Mother Fuck the refs every chance he gets.

Almost as important as Chryst was Bostad (left for Pitt briefly and now with the Bucs in the NFL). He'd been the OL coach and running game coordinator since 2006.

For all intensive purposes, you're probably right. Our fan base has a bit of a problem with Bielema because he doesn't mix words, and says some things that seem offensive. But his success, particularly against us (B1G CCG) is probably a blessing in the skies. It'll make Coach D work all to harder.

MSU recruits similar guys. You have a guy like Gholston, arguably the biggest "name" on D in the conference this year talking about how the spring and summer is the real season, and the fall is an exhibition to show off how hard you worked in the offseason. When you do have a 5-star stud player buy in to a hard-working philosophy, the rest of the program follows suit.

Got a lot of respect for BB as a program guy, but he's made multiple questionable calls in UW's biggest games that cost him W's, including the last 2 Rose Bowls.

Totally agree--lots of respect for MSU; have really enjoyed our budding rivalry/sticking it to OSU/UM.

No doubt; BB's made some really bone-headed moves over the years. I think he's matured a ton insofar as gameday management, but he's still got a ways to go. He's still relatively young for a HC; I feel/hope he's not a done deal in this regard.

I guess my larger point is: he knows what the WI is and what it needs to be successful and has gone a long way in installing those values and his vision on the program. By in large, he's been extremely successful, and it hasn't come at the expense of the program's integrity.

Sorry! For all intends and porpoises, I didn't know the grimmer police were working overtime here. I'll double check my work more carefully next time, so as not to offend.
