Well they did go back to the Stanley Cup Finals the next year. Not make the playoffs on the last day of the season and then out in the first round.

I know you of all people are smart enough to know that finishing 2-30 doesn't matter. No one cares. shrug

Fact is, both the Wings and Hawks gave us great series to the end. That's all either fan base could ask for.

LOL Yeah you know what I do or don't know. loco

One thing I do know: Both the Wings and Blackhawks were eliminated this year after going down 3 games, then coming back to tie the series, only to lose in game 7. thumbsup

I agree with you, but if some of these numb-skulled people are going to dish it out, they should expect to receive it as well.

Hell some of the three year olds are still at it with such brilliant analysis as, 'rent-a-cup Hawks'. lol Talk about napoleon syndrome.

And in full disclosure, for those that are newbs to the board, I am not a Blackhawks fan.

    This.

As soon as this thread was created I was ready to bump it when the Sharks knocked the Wings off.

The Wings are the marquee franchise of the NHL. "Napoleon syndrome"? That does not make any sense.

For not being a Hawks fan, I sure did seem to strike a nerve . . . I guess the truth can do that. Go ahead and talk about how awesome Chicago is again - very relevant to the discussion.

You are a prime example of why Detroit fans hate Chicago fans.

Anyone who says that Bulls fans are bandwagon fans is a jackass(including you). The Bulls have been close to 90% in attendance and the top of the league for the last 15+ years and have been drawing good tv numbers as well. Add in the fact that 6 NBA titles are still fresh in a lot of people memory, and you have a good franchise.

You want bandwagon NBA fans, look at the Pistons. Middle of the back attendance through 2003. Then whats this, they get good and are at the top of attendance till 2009. Then guess what, they start to blow and people stay away. This year they were 18th in attendance. Classic bandwagoners. The Bulls NEVER went that low in attendance, even when they only won 20 games for an entire year.

Those attendance figures are nice, but they might have something to do with market size as well. And I'm not going to knock any fans that don't want to sit through the drama and BS that has been allowed to go on during the ownership change.

Montreal hasn't won a cup in close to 20 years now. I love the Habs, but that's like a UM fan claiming they're the premier program in CFB.

Premier? Some idiot Wing fan claimed the Wings were the marquee team, not the premier team. shrug

But if they can become fans after the ownership change wouldn't that be what is considered jumping back on the bandwagon?

The Bulls haven't sniffed the success they are having now since '98, but people still showed up. Coaches left, players came and went, they had some terrible drafts (Curry, Jay Williams, Marcus Fizer) but people still went to games.

  • Attendance numbers have always been very solid for the Bulls. They led the league in attendance this year, and are in the top 10 in a down year.

However, lets not pretend that a lot of Bulls fans did not go into hibernation for quite some time. A lot of fans have suddenly rediscovered their passion for the Bulls. I suppose it is not the same as other fans that just come out of the woodwork, but it is still mildly amusing...the same way Pistons fans are amusing to you.

A very good indication of a "marquee" team is road attendance, how well you draw outside your own building.

    2011:
    Detroit - 1st
    Montreal - 3rd

    2010:
    Detroit - 2nd
    Montreal - 6th

    2009:
    Detroit - 1st
    Montreal - 5th

    2008:
    Detroit - 3rd
    Montreal - 6th

    2007:
    Detroit - 12th
    Montreal - 14th

    2006:
    Detroit - 2nd
    Montreal - 4th

    2004:
    Detroit - 1st
    Montreal - 3rd

    2003:
    Detroit - 1st
    Montreal - 20th

    2002:
    Detroit - 1st
    Montreal - 18th

    2001:
    Detroit - 1st
    Montreal - 25th

    Shall I keep going?
