Samsung Galaxy sIII or ....?

  • about to pull the trigger and order a samsung galaxy sIII. Anything else i should be looking at or comparing too? switching from an extremely old blackberry, which i don't even consider a smart phone, so anythign will be a huge improvement. all i know is i don't want an iphone. any thoughts?

if go with s III will probably go with sprint due to unlimited plan, but carrier not really an issue as no existing contract.

    thanks.

  • If you are switching to Sprint, I think they have the evo or the X1 or something like that. That would be very comparable and is considered one of the best droid phones out there. Sprint's network is supposed to upgrade to 4G soon. I just really think that with as fast as these phones are supposed to transfer data, 2gb can be blown through in a couple of weeks. I think Sprint is good if you are in a populated area, but there have been complaints about rural use with it. I would check with people around you who might have Sprint to see how they like it.

Verizon is starting to nickel and dime its customers as they have recently come out to let the public know that the stockholder is a higher priority than its existing customers, so unless you can grandfather into an unlimitted plan, I would stay away from them.

  • Sprint > everyone. Until they break their 80 a month unlimited 4G data plan with 1500 minutes.

  • I just upgraded to the SIII this weekend. As of right now, the grandfathered unlimited data plans for Verizon are still being honored. Until they officially make the change you can keep your unlimited data with your upgrade.

Also, Sprint is going to have to make a major capital infrastructures investment to hope to catchup to Verizon's LTE network. How long can they keep their unlimited plan at that price while expanding and maintain reasonable profit margins.

Sprint has the EVO LTE which, if you go with Sprint, you should definitely look at (if you go with AT&T or T-Mobile, you should look at the One X, which is mostly the same, with just a few differences).

Hardware specs seem to be pretty much the same between the new EVO and the Galaxy SIII, though the SIII will have more RAM, I believe. The EVO seems to be more durable than the SIII is expected to be. There are a lot of comparative reviews out there between the SIII and the One X, based on the international versions, to at least get some idea until the US versions of the SIII is out. If you can wait a few weeks, go play with them in the stores and then make your decision. That's what I'll be doing, as my contract was up in April.

As for Sprint's 4G, their new service LTE (which will replace their old 4G service) is coming on line in a few markets just about any day. This link has a list of the announced markets: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ Their old 4G service won't work on the new phones, so you'll be using 3G for a while. But if you're not using a 4G service now, you won't notice the difference. In fact, if you have an old BB, you'll probably feel the internet faster. Some people have reported faster 3G speeds on the new EVO than 4G speeds on the old EVO (which partly speaks to why Sprint is replacing their old 4G service).

Well for Verizon they are saying June 21st, but when I pre-ordered at Best Buy mobile and they said that they are probably only going to get enough in stock to handle the pre-orders. So chances are, there will be a very limited supply available for purchase that day.

T-Mobile and Sprint are June 21
AT&T supposedly is sending out phones on June 18 to preorder customers
Verizon is going to say they never really had the S3 and cancel everyone's preorders and switch to tiered data pricing. Or sometime in July.
