  • 9. Nothing is guaranteed.

Trice coming back at full speed will be huge, in terms of scoring and letting Appling concentrate on defense.

Buford will not have enough impact, hot or cold, to stand up to the Spartan attack.

Edit: P.S. -- Nix says he's playing at 100%. biggrin

People need to stop using "Senior Day" as a reason for why we'll win. Michigan was supposed to roll over Purdue on their Senior Day, Northwestern lost to O$U on Senior Day, and Illinois just lost tonight on Senior Day.

I think we grind one out, though I agree I hope the cold Buford shows up and we can defend like we did in C-bus. Also, hopefully Appling can be aggressive offensively and not let Craft rattle him.

Was gonna post the same thing. And you left out that OSU got beat on their seinor day.

"Senior Day" doesn't make a team necessarily play any better.

Doesn't necessarily make them play worse, either. MSU historically has had some unreal, season-best performances on Senior Day. I am not sure it's that big a deal this time due to the quality of the opponent.

I just think Izzo is going to ask the team if they want to share the championship with 2 teams, 1 team, or nobody. Add in the factor of who the teams are, and I think the team comes out breathing fire.

Has nothing to do with Senior Day -- it's what's at stake.

It's also a great thing that Trice is that close to 100% (except for conditioning). Helps the team all over the floor, and gives Craft more to think about.

I don't think where the team is at emotionally will be the issue. Defending Sullinger and whether or not Craft is allowed to do his Lawrence Taylor chops at the ball (and how Appling/Trice play through it if he's permitted to do it) are the big factors. Despite their talent and their escape from NU, OSU is still trying to figure themselves out. Bit late in the season for that.

If yes, then very confident that MSU will win.

Let's look at the teams that lost their seniors days and how. Even though NW lost to OSU, they got screwed down the stretch with 2 horrific calls Craft traveled and dished for a 3 not called and Sullinger threw the ball should have been a technical. Shurna covering Sullinger should have meant blowout OSU, but it did not. ScUM has been jacking 3's all year. They jacked 32 on senior day, they did not fall and scUM lost, no surprise. Illinois had no seniors on their team last night but that 5th year transfer guard, plus Weber knows his goose is cooked, so does his team. Let's talk about OSU's senior day. Buford the only senior did go for 15 and 9. Why he passed the ball on that last possession to Thomas instead of dumping it in to Sullinger, I will never know. Thomas jacked a 3 trying to draw a foul, did not work. Buford has been the scapegoat most of the season for fans because they say the team lacks leadership. Since our game with them Sullinger has been the scapegoat as well. Now let's look at MSU. This team wins games by playing defense and rebounding. You can be pretty sure those two things show up Sunday. Izzo will be all over the refs for Craft bumping and hacking our guards, it will pay off in the 2nd half. Payne will handle Sullinger, Nix has to figure out how to do his part. A once in a decade or 2 leader is graduating, his last game in Breslin. Just like he did not want to graduate losing his last scUM game at home he sure as hell does not want any reference that the BTPOY's team shared a championship with them. That alone gives me confidence that we come away with a victory.
