Scariest Video Game

  • For me, it's Fallout 3. I think the combination of the music and the atmosphere just made the eeriness amazing.

Knowing the city like I do, and knowing some of the real world places the game takes you makes it all the more scary.

  • Have only seen it mentioned once in this thread, so i'll put in another vote for Alan Wake (360 exclusive, coming to pc soon).

The atmosphere in that game is extraordinary, dark forests with dark creatures coming at you from behind with eerie music coming in at just the right times.

Amnesia is still by far #1, but Alan Wake is a great game. More of a Steven King scary, great game and great story. Also cheap now too.

Dead Space is great too, both of them.

But in those games you have guns and powers and the like. Amnesia gives you nothing to fight back with. You run, you hide, or you die. Takes the scary to a whole new level.

But I think the most intense and scariest place was the other ship where you meet the marine necromorPhs. Not only are they scary but a bitch to take down without stasis

oh man, yeah, and they were all twitchy and fast and shit.

It reminds me of something i'd say to my friends for a while when bravery was ever relevant. I'd go "you know who's really brave? ...Isaac." I'd do the same thing with Leon Scott Kennedy from Resident Evil.

FWIW, I bought Alan Wake when it came out because of the great reviews and attempted to flush it down the toilet after playing it. 50% of that game is wandering around in the woods at night with a flashlight with nothing happening. The other 50% is you watching pre-programmed scenes. Terrible.

Haven't heard of many negative experiences with Alan Wake. I really enjoyed the story line of the game, so the scenes were enjoyably to me.

  • Dead Space. Going more old school though, while the game itself wasn't that scary I thought the first marine part in Alien vs Predator where the motion detector is just picking up dots get closer and closer was terrifying. That motion detector sound is just haunting.

  • Someone said earlier Eternal Darkness. That game was not only scary, but was a really really good game.

I was wondering for all my fellow video game nerds out there what's the scariest video game you've ever played? I just went through FEAR 1 and 2 on Xbox 360 and those were pretty good. Up for trying anything.

as an 11 year old, this game used to scare the crap outta me. Jason would just appear out of nowhere and the music would get all hyped lol.

  • I'm going with Doom. First real 1st person shooter.

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?

  • I've played through both the Dead Spaces and loved them. I beat the crap out of Dead Space 1 (three times). Alan Wake was also awesome. Some parts of it were very creepy. The main bad guy (woman) was pretty scary. Has anyone played American Nightmare? I was thinking of picking that up on the XLA.

Reminds me of this game... Wasn't that scary of a game, but it was pretty creepy when you entered a room where one of the family members was present, and they would chase you around the screen.

The "twist" ending if you beat it through with all three "deities" was a nice touch too.
