Sell me on the Keurig one cup coffee makers

  • We've had one for quite while and no way we would ever go back. The convenience, time saving, and ease to change flavors (if you're into that) are all worth the little extra $$$ it costs per cup. They're also nice at parties because people just walk up and make whatever flavor they want. Since using ours I think all our friends now use them exclusively.

  • I have had one for a long time now and continue to use it every morning. The thing is fantastic. One thing I suggest. Stock up on Chai Latte's. They are not really my thing, but nearly every single guest that comes over is always wanting one. I have one friend that every time they come over they make a half cup of chai latte and a half cup of coffee.

Why doesn't anyone just drink coffee flavored coffee anymore? I'll have a french vanilla latte with a sprig of cinnamon and whipped cream. Pussies.

One at a time coffee makers are okay for those that just drink ONE cup and dash out the door. For those of us who don't they are just plain stupid. I solved the wait time years ago. I bought a coffee maker with, gasp, a TIMER, that allows me to set up the coffee maker before I go to bed and it is ready for me when I get up the next morning!!! And it only cost me $18.00!!!!!!

It seems weird to call everyone pussies when you drink a latte with cinnamon and whipped cream. If you would have said you drink black coffee without anything in it then it would be a bit more justified.

  • Useless fact: Keurig sells 5 Billion..that is 5,000,000,000 of these individual cups annually.

For people who drink more than one cup of coffee and don't like burnt crappy coffee that sits on a heater, it's a great buy. I might drink 2 cups of coffee, sometimes 3 in a day. Yet they are well spaced out. It's convenient to be able to have a fresh cup of coffee whenever I want it without having to throw out the last batch, change filters, fill with coffee, etc.

Of course you clearly don't like coffee since you need a french vanilla latte with cinnamon and whipped cream.

  • I was also wondering the environmental effects of these single disposable cups. That could definitely help with image making a biodegradable cup. Isn't there a way to "make your own" cup with regular coffee and a reusable basket or something?

Yes, they sell refillable cups that you can put your own coffee in:

the trick is the variety. Especially in a work environment. Can you imagine having 6 canisters of coffee that someone scoops into a basket to make themselves a cup. Then has to toss their filter. Huge mess.

This is a simple single use solution. Flavia has one too that uses more of a foil pouch...but it is odd as it is liquid inside, not coffee grounds.

Some machines come with the reusable basket filters too.

  • Yeah, I'm pretty lazy and probably wouldn't be any more likely to fill a reusable filter than making a full pot of coffee now. I guess the whole advantage is not having to put much effort in and getting a cup of coffee. I don't have one because I only drink coffee at home on the weekends and usually split a pot with the wifey so it doesn't make too much sense currently for me. Also I can usually convince her to make the pot of coffee because she NEEDS coffee... I just like it.

That's a good step, but I still couldn't imagine buying one until that is the standard. And I'm in no way an environmentalist, it just seems like a huge waste.

Unlike the millions of used paper filters, foil coffee bags, paper coffee bags, metal coffee tins, etc that are thrown in the trash each year?

Not saying those are good by any means, but those you can get more use out of than the one cup plastic cups.

I can get a full cup and a half out of each single serve K cup and it is still strong enough shrug

I'm making assumptions here since I do not know but aren't the filters biodegradable and the tins recyclable? Foil bags probably last zillions of years though I would imagine.

Broke down and got one at Target yesterday. 180 Keurig for $119 plus an instant $25 target gift card. I love it! Like many of you, the wife and I were stopping by Tim Hortons, Big Bs, Starbucks, and the likes every morning, because of the tim it takes to brew a pot in the morning. Even when we did have time, at least half of the pot would sit wasted until the next morning or worse (mold in the filter for days later). Plus, it's not like we're throwing our coffee pot maker away in case we have company or just want to make a pot of coffee some Sunday morning. I will have to try the refillable k-cup for some of my local roaster coffee...thanks to whoever for that info.

Anyone have the best online sites/prices for k-cups? I have heard costco, but until I get a membership I'll have to look elsewhere.

You konw, just becuase you have a whole pot doesn't mean you have to make a whole pot of coffee, right? You can make as much as you want to drink. Not saying the Keurig isn't any good but why do people think you need to make a whole pot at a time? You aren't the only one I've seen say this.

Don't forget the cups and lids from the coffee shops too.

  • Have had one for 6 months at the office and will never go back. Easy, clean. FRESH, and clients and staff like different coffees, teas, hot chocolate, cider......cannot beat the variety.
We buy our kcups online in pkg of 96 for caribou coffee, and 24s of everything else. VERY nice to walk over and have a hot cup in 30 seconds!

I prefer to make a pot at home via French press.....it makes 4 cups which is about right.

+1 - tWyff looks at me like I'm crazy when I brew a half pot of coffee. I don't understand it.

My company has actually done some R&D work in biodegradable materials to make those cups and filters out of for them. Probably should say much for business reasons but I think they are still in the testing stages for them.

It's tough to get the flavor right when only brewing a couple of cups of coffee using a 10-12 cup pot. k-cups = perfect brew every time.

I have not bought one for this simple reason:

What happens if Keurig goes out of business? Where do you get the pods then?

We never use the premade cups. We bought filters to use with our own coffee and tea. Much easier that way and you don't have to rely on those expensive cups.
