That is obviously not what I meant. Of course all things are not "good" if, and only if, they derive pure enjoyment (e.g. a psychopath enjoys murder). Hunting, for me, is the totality of the experience outdoors, the thrill of the hunt, the time spent with friends, the bond between my dog and I, the taste of the game, seeing the enjoyment my dog gets from it, etc. The act of hunting, holistically, is something we are meant to enjoy. I suppose the same could be said about sex. It has a very natural intent, obviously this intent is also coupled with a gift of pleasure.

FYI training on wild birds and running your dog on public land opens back up July 8 not August 15. I think last year it was July 15. I think that August 15th date is when the preserves can open back up
Dog Training
You may train dogs on wild animals only from July 8 through April 15. Exception: Michigan residents may train dogs on fox on state lands in Zone 3 under special permit. See the 2011 Michigan Bear Hunting Digest for dog/bear training restrictions.

Has this recently changed to July? Plus on the State Land by my house it would be really hard to enforce, people take their dogs for walks in the middle of Gun Dear season. My problem would be the E Collar and that he is a Beagle. Even though people walk their labs without a leash and it is somehow legal. I understand the point, that they don't want my Beagle killing young Bunnies or Pheasant, I just don't know how they allow some dogs without leashed and others without.

There's a lot of wild pig running around out there in Texas and Arkansas etc..if it weren't for the Red Blood 'Mericans running and flying around hunting them..there'd be serious problems.
An instance of population control, damn right..

Population control? You want population control, kill humans who are stupid. Over 90 percent of wildlife that has existed since the beginning of time...IS EXTINCT. That is a lame duck argument (pun intended).
I like a nice steak just as much as the next guy, but I have never hunted and have never killed an animal. Never cared for it.

I think Nike is missing out by not making some blaze orange Spartan gear and some digital camo gear, because Michigan is full of outdoorsmen. theSpartan needs to let Nike know. I would buy some if they made it.
Adidas made some blaze orange and camo stuff when they had the NFL contract and I have an orange Lions hat. They also made some SCu-m gear too.

Seriously, what is the appeal of hunting in 2012?
