Size comparison between new Spartan Stadium scoreboards and old

Dislike. Love how thousands of the seats get a fantastic view of campus. That would prevent the view.

Of course in 40-50 years, if there is such a demand for seats, I guess it would make sense.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I think the whole campus view thing is very overrated. Enjoying the beautiful campus is what tailgating on game day is for. Once I am in the stadium I want it to be the most loud and intimidating place in the country for an opponent. I care about my view of the field, and that's about it. Now I agree on the demand part. We need a few years (not 50) of selling every game out, but once demand is established, I love the thought of an upper deck expansion.

Yep, redo the east side to match the West, possibly adding a couple 1000 more seats.

Eventually 'horseshoe' in South end if need be.

Gotta keep the view out the North as unimpeded as it is now. Not like we need more seats 60 rows up in the corners of the endzones.

Or remove the uppers on the East side and do a slightly less tacky version of the soldier field 'spaceship'.

  • I took a quick walk around the stadium on my way home. First two pics of the South side showing today's progress and more materials staged in the area.

  • Two pics of the North side. Little progress since yesterday.

One small quibble I have and I zoomed in on the NW board (first pic) a bit to show as best as I can - the seams in the facade are quite obvious and it even appears to be showing a few "puckers" when viewed in full sunlight. It doesn't seem as obvious on the NE board (second pic) but that facade is not taking direct sunlight in the photo. It's minor but hopefully won't be as obvious when the boards are complete.

  • Yea I hope those seams don't always show like that. Looks a bit cheap. What is going to be on the backs of the smaller boards? I thought I remembered the Spartan helmets on each board, correct?

    Jizzy2323

  • Wow. They made a ton of progress on the south board today. I have a feeling, by the end of the week, the north boards will be finished (not fully functional, obviously, but completely built) and the south board will be damn close.

This is very uneducated, but I don't think that is the actual back of the scoreboard. If you look at the top and bottom this screen is a little sunken in from the frame. I think that may be some type of inner screen and another one will be plopped on the outside.

God I hope so because it definitely doesn't look like the renderings.

do you come into a room being renovated and bitch about how shitty the drywalling is because you can see the screws and the seams before they've taped and mudded, let alone painted?

Depends. I check the seams and corners of drywall before its taped and mudded. Catch it early and it's less of an issue down the road.

I'm sure they will take care of it though.

Maybe we need to call Mike Holmes?

  • To be fair, we don't even know if they've got all the screws in the facade (msubrass indicated it shipped with the wrong color screws). I was under the impression this is the actual finished back of the boards, although there will be signage (Spartan helmet IIRC) on that surface.

They wouldn't be permitted to hang the metal without all the fasteners. Thats too great of a liability.

He'd ensure there was a vapor barrier and weeping tile and then pack up and head back to Canada.

What is a weeping tile? You mean a weep hole?

You forgot that Holmes would have the whole interior spray foamed.

Expanding foam insulation is pretty nifty if you enjoy an r value of around 19. Minus well use 1 1/2" rigid foam insulation in that case. But it's not like those boards will be conditioned space, if anything they need ventilation...

There would also be a live wire too close to a dripping water pipe or gas line.

The entire thing would be skewed by .0005 degrees, so we'll need to dig up and reset the entire thing.

Somehow, the cold air return would be renovated over.
