roflmao I guess that could somehow be possible, sounds expensive though.

  • So, why do we care about some random mediocre UM recruit exactly?

  • A) He hasn't committed anywhere yet.

and 2) Can someone explain how this is supposed to work?

"Chesterton's Mitch McGary will attend Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., to boost his academic status that would have likely left him ineligible for college basketball after his senior season.

"In the last month, we've been working it out to see what I needed for grades," McGary said Monday night from Milwaukee, where he is playing in an AAU tournament with SYF. "I could've gotten straight A's my senior year and I still would have to go to a junior college."

so if he were to get all As in high school next year he would still be ineligible, but going to a grade mill for a year instead magically makes him eligible? how the hell does that work?

Built his reputation on bullying kids 2 years younger. He'll be 20 when he plays his first game at UM. Let's wait and see.

Alright, yeah. I just watched his videos, and he's pretty damn good. Basically looks like a slightly larger Kevin Love.

That is how the prep school bit works.

McGary reportedly has ADHD, so that supposedly is the cause of his early grade trouble. Who knows.

His AAU coach steered him to Michigan. Being theorized in multiple places that he ends up on UM's bench at some point as an assistant.

  • Rumour is MSU was his number one choice. I even heard from a reliable source that he called Izzo and begged him to allow him to commit. Izzo doesn't want him, there is a reason. Nothing to worry about here.

Nope. Brumm has done all but drive the kid to UM and has praised JB to the point of ridiculousness.

Nothing about this is illegal, of course. But UM won't be able to play their moral high ground bullshit on this one. They are now into the AAU pool with both feet. And with a prep school kid to boot.

    Sorry.

This is clearly a joke. MSU was never in on McGary.

UM was first in, along with Maryland. McGary a year ago was not ranked anywhere near where he is now. He exploded on the summer league circuit.

I am taking nothing away from UM. He's a great get. What I'm saying is that they played all the requisite games to get him that are necessary in modern day college ball.

No more high ground. They're playing to win.

Don't know where you're getting your info. I did hear that if he got his grades in line and took care of an "issue" (not sure what it is) the coaches would give him a look, and I've heard regardless of who he commits to tomorrow if we want him, he's ours.

  • I still have no idea why, given his options, that he's probably going to choose Michigan. It really makes no sense. Not only basketball-wise, but you can't even say that he's in it for the academics. You've got one program that just won a National Championship and is an annual contender for an NC and then you have Michigan. A school who's best season in over a decade got them a .500 conference record and a cookie. If the kid cared at all about winning or preparing himself for the NBA, you don't go to Michigan. Kids are fickle though and if he's only going to play for a year or two and go pro, he can do that anywhere.

At Duke he's playing behind Ryan Kelly and the Plumlees. At Michigan he's starting.

I could not believe that Doug Karsch took time today to announce this kid will be announcing tomorrow and could be coming to UM.

I was actually stunned because it was such a random thing. One kid, one basketball recruit, not even announcing today, and not even for sure going to select UM. Why even bring that up?? No mention of MSU getting stud basketball or the occasional surprise football prospect.

It actually sort of makes sense.

    1. His best friend, Glenn Robinson, Jr (from the same AAU team) is also enrolling at UM next year.
    2. It's relatively close to home
    3. He wants to become ball screen, jump shooting big, like Lamar Odom. JB could help him there.

The primary selling point has been that he can help return UM to "Glory" if Hardaway doesn't split after this season.

Like it or not, if Hardaway returns, they will be a top 10 preseason team next season and the likely B1G favorite unless Sullinger hangs around another year.
