Time for some Dylan covers that don't suck.

Weir, Robinson, Greene's cover of Tom's Thumb Blues is freaking awesome.

Dave was also great in the movie Because of Winn-Dixie. I really think he is a much better actor than singer.

    It wouldn't be hard.

  • I still like DMB 14 years later, and I'm not ashamed of that. I think they're talented musicians who develop and actually perform their own music, and they put on a good live show. Nothing wrong with that. Doesn't mean I dislike every other musician out there.

not a Dylan cover, but Rage did an interesting cover of "The Ghost of Tom Joad"..

And here's Morello trading licks and vocals with The Boss.

cool "Masters of War" cover by Pearl Jam..

Pretty much anything pearl jam does is awesome. Hell, he chugs wine of all things during his show, and that instantly makes drinking wine totally rock star hip.

There's nothing wrong with DMB. If you don't like them, fine. But to deny the talent shows a lack of knowledge on your part.

    Signed,

A guy that goes to 30-40 concerts a year, none of them being a DMB one.

Exactly.. Every guy in DMB has a ton of talent.

Bob, I love ya, guy - but you sure do come off as judgmental and condescending for a guy that allegedly is one of the most laid back people up in here.

Exactly.. He comes off as a complete ass...

  • Not even the best Dave M to do the song.

(Yes "Traffic" and Played on the 'AATWT' with Hendrix trumps) DMB.

I'm going with the Air Supply/Chicago show..

word on the street is that Peter Cetera joined Air Supply onstage for a "Lost in Love" reprise..

I can't stand Peter Cetera and I really enjoy Springsteen, especially the early stuff.

That being said you should 'go to school on this' because I would stack Chicago II above any Springsteen album. Either of the first two albums before they pussed out and the guitar player blew his brains out actually are better.

  • What about the Doobie Brothers?

    They have some good tunes.

  • Was any band ever as huge as DMB, then basically vanished, without a breakup or death or something and then just done NOTHING?

And it's not like the 'soft jam band' genre went away... MMJ, Jack Johnson, Michael Franti, OAR, etc, etc.

  • They did have a member die in 2008. Also, they had an album out in 2009 which was up for a grammy. They toured after that album until 2011, when they too the year off.

They are in studio doing another album now. Allegedly, going back to the sounds of the first 2 albums.

Edit, sorry meant to quote Pylon....

They are very good, just extremely played out. Yes, the violin player right?

I bartended and waited at a bar when "Too Much" was popular and it was apparently the only song on our jukebox... I really wish to shank MF'ers every time I hear that song now.

Grammy's don't mean much really. It's almost a sign that you ARE a has been.

Every single solo album by the Allman Brothers players was nominated for a grammy last year too. And only 1 of them was really any good.

I agree, which is why I'm not a huge fan anymore. They had a good run. Time to hang it up, play a few dates a year, bang that hot doc wife, and ride off into the sunset.

  • I used to really hate DMB in the 90's because it was so overplayed everywhere and all the douche bag frat boys seemed to gravitate to it.

Then I saw them in concert in 2000 at Comerica Park and gained some appreciation for them. They are a really good live band and have lots of musical talent. I wouldn't call myself a big fan by any means, and haven't seen DMB since that show in 2000 or really payed attention to any of the studio stuff they've done since, but I definitely don't hate on them like I used to. I have a few live albums by them and think it is pretty solid stuff.
