Now, first off, I'm also a little bummed we didn't get Chip Kelly to come coach our offense. A sexy hire would have been great, and would have probably earned us this year's May Recruiting Trophy.
But let's consider something about this Bollman hire. First off, isn't our program built on defense and a steady grind-it-out offense? Does anyone here really want the next Rich Rodriguez to come to East Lansing, guns blazing on some gimmicky spread offense that will get smashed by any physical defense in the Big Ten? Yes, Bollman is a "safe" hire, and we're getting a known commodity. But do we need anything else? Do we need to ring up sixty points per game with Narduzzi's defense?
No. And Dantonio knows this. We need an offense that can maintain possession of the ball and put up a modest 20-30 points per game against Big Ten teams. That is not a tall order for anyone except Dan Roushar - and even the most stalwart of the Roushar defenders have to admit that it could not get much worse than putting up 10-16 points in every big game of the year.
So, I don't know how well this is going to work out. But I'm willing to give the guy a chance, because we don't need him to work any miracles. Besides, he's not Dan Roushar, and that already puts him in the plus column in my book.

You may be the first person in history to not want your team to score 60 points. That's absurd. I understand where you're coming from, but to say, "Hey, we don't need to score! Let the defense do the work." is just plan stupid.
What this basically says is that you need your defense to play damn near perfect every game and hope that your offense scores enough not to look stupid. I don't want 60 points a game. I want 70.

the OP never said he didn't want to score 60. He said we can score 20-30 & it will be fine because of the defense.
Putting up 20-30 points doesnt create the need to play perfect football.
We don't NEED to score 60 with the way the defense performs. Not NEEDING is different than not wanting. Read the OP again.
Of course I would want to make every game 60-6, but we still win at 30-6.... I get it, demand excellence, but when did scoring 30 points a game become poor?

Tell me what was left on the roster, what recruits were secured, how many upperclassmen we had coming back, and what type of season(s) is the program have with those guys in te system?
Better yet, talk about Anastos' connection to Lou Schmidt and the suburban hockey schools. K thx!
