  • Non-VIP vs VIP. Seriously, what are the benefits?

I post here enough that feel compelled to contribute perhaps...but I don't really care that much about recruiting is that all there is to VIP?

Well, recruiting aside, there's usually a chunk of current football/bball information in the Red Cedar Rumblings (twice weekly). Obviously the value of that is better from Aug - the Spring game, as the summer months are pretty much just weight room, injury and qualification (if any) updates. Recruiting coverage over the past year has been pretty good and they also keep track of how MSU's commits are doing through their SR year. Then again, if you aren't interested in recruiting, you'll probably only have a passing interest in the recruiting content.

Ebling writes fantastic columns and has a lot of insight. I've gotten together with him several times over the past year; guy knows more about MSU sports than anyone I've met. The in-season reviews of games by him are great.

In the interest of full disclosure, my football previews are also VIP, but the value of that depends on how much you care about what I have to say on the subject, as well as your tolerance for stats lol. With that in mind, I'm obviously not a neutral party in this, but I thought I'd lay out what VIP gets you in general.

Oh, you can also read VIP stuff on the national site, but if you're not interested in recruiting, I'd say it's of limited value.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

One benefit is to identify the poverty-stricken from the rest...It's only $10/month at most.

what's the "brodson-sponsored RCMB"? Putting your name on the board, so when people click the top of the screen says "The Red Cedar Message Board - Sponsored by Brodson!"?

If you haven't already, I'd sign up for the 30 day free trial in mid-late August. That way you'll get the end of fall camp info (which gives you an impression of what VIP stuff you'd be reading about in the spring as well since the practice info is similar) as well as the full coverage for the first 2-3 games of the fall (I'd highly advise timing it so you get Boise St. and ND, games 1 and 3, free).

The staff is working to make the site a "one-stop shop" for MSU fans, which is why there's everything from recruiting, to the previews, Ebling's insight, discussion of position battles, etc.

Again, in the interest of full disclosure, my hope is that you get hooked on the information provided and decide to go VIP full time to get the rest of the football season, as well as bball season.

And hey, If it doesn't meet your expectations, then at least it was free for a month. I would hope you enjoyed some of what you read, and if you had the time, provide feedback as to what you'd want (content-wise; software, etc. is another issue).

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • To be honest I don't really read the recruiting stuff, but I really like the game previews/recaps.

Plus it makes you feel so much better when the site is down to know that you're paying a site to piss you off haha

Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.

Does Rocky get an extra perk for actively shilling? I mean, I'll sell out too...

Maybe I can write like, a weekly building preview about some of the buildings being painted/repaired around campus?

lol not at all. As I said, I'm not neutral and am making 0 effort to hide it.

Very nice summary here. Jack's insight and talent are second to none and his columns always put a unique spin on all things MSU athletics. Sean is also on top of every prospect with MSU ties and provides very timely updates, while monthly features such as the "Hot List" are a good rundown of Spartan recruiting for those who aren't diehards like yourself. Spartan Rocky's game previews are unbelievably thorough and unlike any other I've come across. Very interesting stuff each week.

Furthermore, we're always welcome to feedback and interaction on the message boards or via PM. Like Rocky I'm not a neutral party in this either, but I think the combination of recruiting and team coverage makes this a pretty unique and worthwhile site for those that bleed Green.
