Well, recruiting aside, there's usually a chunk of current football/bball information in the Red Cedar Rumblings (twice weekly). Obviously the value of that is better from Aug - the Spring game, as the summer months are pretty much just weight room, injury and qualification (if any) updates. Recruiting coverage over the past year has been pretty good and they also keep track of how MSU's commits are doing through their SR year. Then again, if you aren't interested in recruiting, you'll probably only have a passing interest in the recruiting content.
Ebling writes fantastic columns and has a lot of insight. I've gotten together with him several times over the past year; guy knows more about MSU sports than anyone I've met. The in-season reviews of games by him are great.
In the interest of full disclosure, my football previews are also VIP, but the value of that depends on how much you care about what I have to say on the subject, as well as your tolerance for stats
. With that in mind, I'm obviously not a neutral party in this, but I thought I'd lay out what VIP gets you in general.
Oh, you can also read VIP stuff on the national site, but if you're not interested in recruiting, I'd say it's of limited value.
