  • I once looked to see how much it was and couldn't even find that. The marketing certainly could be better.

Well, recruiting aside, there's usually a chunk of current football/bball information in the Red Cedar Rumblings (twice weekly). Obviously the value of that is better from Aug - the Spring game, as the summer months are pretty much just weight room, injury and qualification (if any) updates. Recruiting coverage over the past year has been pretty good and they also keep track of how MSU's commits are doing through their SR year. Then again, if you aren't interested in recruiting, you'll probably only have a passing interest in the recruiting content.

Ebling writes fantastic columns and has a lot of insight. I've gotten together with him several times over the past year; guy knows more about MSU sports than anyone I've met. The in-season reviews of games by him are great.

In the interest of full disclosure, my football previews are also VIP, but the value of that depends on how much you care about what I have to say on the subject, as well as your tolerance for stats lol. With that in mind, I'm obviously not a neutral party in this, but I thought I'd lay out what VIP gets you in general.

Oh, you can also read VIP stuff on the national site, but if you're not interested in recruiting, I'd say it's of limited value.

I would love to see two plans:

    A. Current plan
    B. Rumbling/Ebling only (no recruiting) for 1/2 price.

  • I get the self-deprecating style of humor that you're using, but even though you're trying to be funny and don't intend this as a slur, using that term is offensive. Our mods have already decided to delete posts where the term "gay" is used as an adjective for something negative...I'm hoping they decide to ban posts where the "r word" term is used in as a negative adjective as well.

I find it curious that you spelled out the "g word" but left me uncertain about the "r word". Maybe I'm a little slow.

    Rumblings usually includes recruiting.

  • Should make the Duff board VIP if for no other reason than to keep the scUM trolls out of there. Pisses me off how much they post there and how much Spartan info they get access to yet we have virtually no access to their recruiting threads.

    Edit. Hate typing on mobile.

It's all good. None of our guys ever had commitable offers to um anyways.

  • It's sort of a coin flip for me. I probably stay VIP only because I got the grandfathered rate. Red Cedar Rumblings is very worthwhile, and Ebling's stuff while well written isn't exactly groundbreaking. The recruiting updates are of virtually no value as you and I can probably write them ourselves, kid is interested in MSU, MSU is interested in kid.......this goes on for months if not years sometimes, and on signing day we actually find out for sure. I've never understood the fixation on star rankings and what schools 17 year old kids are considering. It's a shame the functionality of this site was never developed because then 247 would really have something unique, but their business model seems to be just another recruiting site, and apparently it's working for them.

my deepest apologies for using an "offensive" word. I will not use it going forward.

However, I do believe, as big boys in the real world, we need to be able to handle being offended without whining about it.

Non-VIP vs VIP. Seriously, what are the benefits?

I post here enough that feel compelled to contribute perhaps...but I don't really care that much about recruiting is that all there is to VIP?

Dude, honestly? Go VIP FinalFourU. Content is out of this world!!!!

Very nice summary here. Jack's insight and talent are second to none and his columns always put a unique spin on all things MSU athletics. Sean is also on top of every prospect with MSU ties and provides very timely updates, while monthly features such as the "Hot List" are a good rundown of Spartan recruiting for those who aren't diehards like yourself. Spartan Rocky's game previews are unbelievably thorough and unlike any other I've come across. Very interesting stuff each week.

Furthermore, we're always welcome to feedback and interaction on the message boards or via PM. Like Rocky I'm not a neutral party in this either, but I think the combination of recruiting and team coverage makes this a pretty unique and worthwhile site for those that bleed Green.

If you follow recruiting, Sean and Bill eat, sleep and breathe it. If you want to know what's happening and why it's happening, Dan and I do our best to try to tell you. Yes, there are other places to go for information and opinion. Obviously, I think our site is the best. If I didn't write for it, I'd definitely pay to read it. And when the LSJ starts charging for access, people will appreciate 247 more. But I wish there had been a site like this when I was starting to follow MSU in the 19th century. I guarantee there was never anything like Rumblings. And we're about to announce a VIP discount for Heart of a Spartan, due out in June, it that matters.

  • ok...so VIP doesn't really appeal to me.

But...no one ever answered about my sponsorship. shrug
