Spring Ball - Five Questions

Heath at DE last I knew. Big guy, 6'5/6'6 275ish.

Lang's status has been nothing more than rumors at this point. If he's healthy, he's a prototypical H-back who would be looking to have a game similar to Gantt.

Joel Heath will be @ DE during the Spring. He's 6'-6" and up to 277 lbs.
TE Paul Lang is still on the Roster but very unlikely that he will ever participate in any practices. All reports have been that his back injury is career ending.

    That is very bad news.

Hey CBD, I see Damon Knox is listed on the depth chart. That looks to be good news. Didn't you say he had a minor surgery a couple months back? I look at Knox to be the future stud at Tackle for the team, can't teach that size.

Yes, Damon Knox had back surgery last Dec. The early prognosis was that he wouldn't be able to participate in spring practice. He has recovered well from the surgery and it appears that he will see the field during Spring practice.

  • To all those who have mentioned the receivers, that is a huge key and something I asked Dantonio about today. One really interesting thing to me was that Dantonio said Nick Tompkins could even play some wide receiver. I'm thinking that's more of a worst-case scenario regarding Burbridge and Arnett but interesting none the less. Bennie Fowler won't be full-go this spring which is also a tough break.

Plenty of good stuff from Dantonio today, some of which I just posted in an update on the front page. Heading over to watch practice at 3:50 followed by player interviews at 6:30 and I'll report back with all the details there.

  • How are guys getting injured in the off season? I understand that they are working out constantly, but guys should not be tweaking things in the weight room.

I wouldn't say TE is a sneaky position of worry, I would say it's a pretty big concern. Even if Sims stays healthy, he can only play so many snaps and the staff has always liked to use multiple tight end sets. When you look at WR and DT, we're inexperienced but there are talented guys that will be fighting for playing time. At TE, we're scrambling just to find bodies right now. Between spring and fall, they really need to find 2 guys that can contribute positive snaps.

Yep, TE is a position of worry considering Sims and his health and others who haven't proven themselves. Moving Drone over there should tell us a lot about where the coaches think they're at in terms of depth.

Moving Drone to TE for a tryout tells me we really do need to find some players there. Wouldn't Hoover and his body type be more of a TE fit so to speak. I heard the comment earlier in the week that Drone had excellent hands, but I'm really more concerned about having enough TE's who can assist our running game.

Hoover is like 6'7 290. That's more of an OT than a TE haha.
