Spring Game for little kids

  • I'm talking toddlers and such. Have had friends who have gone and had a good time, and we are planning on going Saturday, weather permitting. What is the pregame atmosphere like? What is there to do with little ones? Hell the last time I went to the Spring game I delivered a case of 40s and participated in a tater tot eating contest. I have no clue what it's like up there these days.

Does the band practice? Is there stuff going on outside of the stadium? Sparty? Spartan Statue? Too young for the Coaching Clinic of course, and the game itself is very much a secondary consideration.

    Advice appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can you bring a case of 40s and tater tots to the spring tailgate? Thanks!

  • I brought my boy last year and there was nothing for him to do, he was 2 so this year he will be 3, I plan on bringing him this year. Last year I spent the first half walking around the entire lower bowl following him. That was after we had a Hotdog and pretzel though. he sat still while we ate that.

It was still a good time, we went to International Center and I bought him a sweatshirt, hat and Mini Football, which came in handy on the way back to the car as I would just throw it ahead of us and he would run ahead and get it. It was the only way I could avoid carrying him.

I asked the same question about the RCMB tailgate to see if anyone else was bringing a toddler. It would be a lot easier if there where other toddlers for him to play with. That or I just show up at game time and leave at the half.

Our friends brought their toddler a couple years ago (Hi John, I know you're reading this Mr. too scared to post guy) and they said it was a pretty fun pregame atmosphere but didn't really remember the details. I'm not really envisioning a whole lot to do inside the stadium. Sit still for maybe 20-30 minutes, walk around a bit and probably leave, unless Sparty is kicking it in the concourse and hanging out with kids. Just wondered what there was to do before the game and if it would be worth it.

  • Brought my then-18-month-old last year and I'll bring her again this year. Bought some MSU gear and lasted about half the game. Didn't see much going on outside the stadium other than some tailgating. I wouldn't mind going a little early this year if the band is doing a pregame show.

I would imagine if you go somewhere with other kids it would be fun for them. You are very accurate about inside the stadium. I am planning on going, maybe hooking up with tRCMB tailgate for a little bit, take him to feed the ducks, then go in and watch the first half.

No Problem. Hey my theory is more kids the better. It is a good chance to bring them to a game where you aren't out a bunch of money when you have to leave early. Plus they can walk around the stadium without pissing anyone off. It will get them into watching sports slowly and not hate it if they get bored if you make them stay the whole game, like if it was vs. UM, Wisky etc..

  • I always go to Midnight Madness, except for that time my mother got kicked by one of her horses and had to be taken via life flight to MCO. I have never been to the spring game as it comes during a time of the year that I have other obligations, like Cedar Point opening day or employee orientation depending on the year.

Are the spring game rules as strict as the rules for the Breslin during Midnight Madness? Would I be able carry my infant son around in his car seat carrier?

Is there a time that the band normally performs?

I am not going to go early, I was thinking about getting there at 1 and seeing how long the kids will tolerate it, but if the band performs I think my 3 year old daughter would really love that.

Spring Game is really laid back. You walk right in and (I assume) you'd be able to leave and come back in case you need to. I don't know if the car carrier is exempt from the "no bag" policy but maybe someone else can speak to that.

Seating is great for little kids because there's plenty of room in the bleachers to spread out and move around, especially in the end zones. You won't have a problem there.

Yeah my son literally walked around the entire lower bowl that day.

It figures that after having an amazing spring that things would take a turn for the worse for the spring game.

  • It is looking like my family will not be attending. I cannot justify taking a 6-week old out in the weather that is predicted for tomorrow.

My wife has offered to stay home with our infant while I take our 3-year old, so I am contemplating that currently.
