  • Dan, With Conroy being a senior and Muma a senior next season, is the staff looking to add a kicker to this year's class (perhaps as a walk-on/greyshirt)?

I would imagine they'll definitely look to add a walk-on if there's a good one out there, but not a scholarship player with limited numbers in 2013. They have some time with Muma, who I assume will take over placekicking duties as a senior once Conroy's gone.

  • The coverage units last year were pretty disappointing, giving up a KR TD at Notre Dame and a PR TD against Georgia (along with some other long returns). Usually, you'd expect a team with depth at LB and DB to have pretty solid coverage. What was the reason for them coming up short last year?

The touchdown at Notre Dame was the result of one player, Taiwan Jones if I recall correctly, being out of position in coverage. Can't happen but keep in mind it was also just his third college game as a true freshman. Just watched that Georgia PR TD again and it looked like a few guys got sucked in, therefore getting out of position in their lanes, but Brandon Boykin is lightning quick and made some impressive cuts. Thought the coverage did improve throughout the year save that one play in the bowl game.

And the CCG. Abbrederis set up WI several times with great KR (he was moved there for that game). The rule-change with the KOs 5 yards closer will help Muma, who does not have the leg to get the ball deep on kick offs. Way too many times returners were starting from between their 5 and 10 yardlines.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

We did take the kid from Holt (as a walk on) who was kicking 50+ yard fg in high school.

  • Any insight on KR/PR? Will nick hill still be KR? I guess we'll know more in the fall when the true frosh arrive.

And Sadler was EXCELLENT last year, especially when he saved the botched snap/catch vs tOSU.

  • Who is taking over for Martin at PR? I have been hoping to hear that AJ Sims will have that job. He seems to be the best suited for it.
