I'm sure everyone around here poo-pooing this were Angels in East Lansing. Don't suddenly gain a mightier than thou attitude.

Couch fires in East Lansing happen all the time, you did it, your friends did it, and generation after generation of Spartans have and will continue to do it. Just because its stupid now doesn't mean it's not fun for the people doing it.

Everyone does -- kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me.

A few students out of 45,000 or whatever it is lit a couch on fire. Anyone who lets that change the way they think of MSU is a Moran and we should not give a fuck what they think.

The way Thad castle described it made it seem like it was an East Lansing Tradition. It happens almost every time MSU loses that big national game in football or Basketball.

"I know West Virginia students take a lot of pride in their ability to rise up and torch apolstry with the best of them, but it's high time we started putting Michigan State fans in a similar class."

just f'ing great, good job morans, thanks for setting us back

No blame people at the State News for trying to get a AP story....and people here overreacting and starting a thread for the lazy journalist to pick up on.

    You're a fucking clown.

    No I didn't. No my friends didn't.

We were rabid Spartans without being rabid idiots. We still are.

Fuck you and every so called "Spartan" who sully the good will each one of us work so hard to build and maintain for every Spartan that comes after us.

You talk about "generations of Spartans" as if you understand the concept of something greater than you.

    You do not.

    Fuck You.

You're right the social fabric of East Lansing is torn at the seams because of couch fires. How silly that I missed that.

Couches burn after many big games, people don't remember that. It's the riots that I'm sure there were many people on here participated when they were a student.

Overreact much? I'd hate to have been at your residence after any big game loss with you and your buddies rabid fan status.

You are an idiot. Why would you want to encourage behavior that makes our university look bad? Most people did NOT participate in riots.

Eh, the occurrence of three small couch fires, especially anything in the infamous Cedar Village area, is newsworthy locally. The only reason it gets picked up nationally is because MSU always has a few idiots who do this from time to time, so we have a reputation for it.

    Denim Chicken

  • I'm more bothered by the lack of creativity than the actual burning of the couch. Think of something new for crying out loud. Or do kids actually strive to burn couches like they did back in the 90's?

Look I'm indifferent to couch fires, you get boozed kids and stupid things happen without adults to supervise. I don't encourage riots, that actually hurts the image and growth of MSU.

But the fact that I see so many people place themselves on this pedestal of excellence is incredible. I'm certain that there's people on here who participated and are now condemning it that they've grown up and seen the light.

And this board is a medium where adults and college kids interact. Why wouldnt we want to condemn idiotic behavior when we see it. It does cast our school in a negative light. Yes, many of us have done stupid crap in our lives, that doesnt mean that it was ok at the time because we were younger. Do you have kids? Are you/would you be ok with them making all the same stupid decisions that you made, or worse, just because they are young.
I am not saying these kids need a role model, or a big brother program, but when they do things that make MSU loom bad it is ok to call them on it. However, this is typical lazy journalism and overreaction that seems to only plague our school. oh well
