Okay, so I have been on self-imposed Walverine exile sice Saturday, but needed to make a public service announcement. I drove up Dort Highway to get to my baseball game this evening. Haven't taken this route in 15 years. Scarier than south side Chicago or most of Detroit. Knew it was bad. Not this bad. Desolate. Ghost town. That is all.

Sad. From what my parents tell me (and I have no idea if this is true and am too lazy too google) in the 1950's Flint had one of the highest per capita incomes of any city in America.
The the late 70's hit and it has been downhill from there. Where Buick City once stood is mile after mile of concrete pads left over after the plants were demolished. Like an atomic bomb went off or something.
Flint Coney Dogs are still the best, though.

What did you expect? Dort's always been a haven for hookers. Dort and Richfield would be part of the eastside which has been a terrible neighborhood for 25+ years. Downtown has gotten fairly nice (aside from the parking issues).

Used to work there... I needed a police escort into work one morning because a club got raided and the entire quarter mile stretch of road leading to work was blocked by police cars... :/

Flint is a hellhole. My office is downtown so it is safe in the day but at night I do not hang around. Genesee County has something like a 25% unemployment rate.

Flint isn't that bad, been here basically my whole life, I work in and around the city. I drive all over every day, I wouldn't send my kids to Flint schools, but I have zero problem living in the city.
And downtown Flint is slowly developing very nicely.

Maybe I was a tad emotional about my drive up Dort. Even the strip clubs looked deserted and abandoned.
I grew up around the city playing in the gyms and on the diamonds-guess it was just tough to see old places I have such good memories of look totally barren and deserted.
Good to hear that downtown is doing better.
