Stay away from Flint, MI

Yeah, Grand Blanc isn't really Flint.

Admit it, Trevor. You've been haulin' ass so long, you're a Flintoid. lol

Fuck that, just go to downtown and spend time in Flint, it'll build character. Don't listen to Sir Snores-Alot above me. He sounds like just another Big White resident.

No argument except for the character part. It will build depression or death. Or both.

I live in Grand Blanc, work in Flint nearly everyday, and going into Flint for dinner on a weeknight or weekend night has not crossed my mind one time. Sage Brush is great. Drive to Fenton. Or De Eduardos in Grand Blanc. Also many hotels in Grand Blanc. Get your ass out of the Holiday Inn Express and drive south.

Send him to chains instead of locally owned stuff downtown? You're funny. Cork and 501 are every bit as good as Da Edoardo. Torch is a great dive for the price. You could've at least suggested a suburban place with character like Little Joe's.

To be honest I know very little about the restaurants in Flint. Correct me if I am wrong but is downtown Flint the one small street that runs next to U of M Flint and the restaurants you speak of are across the street?

Speaking of chains, I do like Casa Real. Miller Rd.

And you are exactly what is wrong with America, people like you are the main reason places like downtown Flint can't rebound because people won't even give it a chance. Quit being so closed minded and scared scared.

Sack up and go experience a good meal downtown, Cork, 501, Torch, and Blackstones are great places to eat and drink.

If you don't have the balls to do it at night, go down town for lunch one day. You will not be disappointed.

Sorry but Flint is horrible. It's one of the most depressed areas in the nation. I doubt people like pacingjim are the reason. I'm guessing it's more the crime, unemployment and poverty. Unless pacingjim is a member of The Dayton Family, then....yeah it's his fault. Flinttown!slapslap

  • This kind of reminds me how in movies someone will complain about a family member, but then when their SO or friend chimes in and makes a comment, they get pissed. If you are from the area, it is ok to bitch about it, but if you are not, STFU.

But, I still partied in Flint. I enjoyed it.

Churchill's & Rubes were fun. I can't remember many other names.

I used to go to Churchill's on Thursdays for college night in the summer. Saw Mateen their a few times. When you're 18-22, you have no fear getting hammered until 2 am with your friends in one of the most dangerous areas in the country.

This. The first step toward the pussification of America was when grown-ass men became so terrified of crime they wouldn't set foot outside their subdivision. Pathetic.

Okay, so I have been on self-imposed Walverine exile sice Saturday, but needed to make a public service announcement. I drove up Dort Highway to get to my baseball game this evening. Haven't taken this route in 15 years. Scarier than south side Chicago or most of Detroit. Knew it was bad. Not this bad. Desolate. Ghost town. That is all.

You are a pussy. A first class pussy at that. Flint is run down and desolate, yes. But it's not "scarier" than parts of Detroit and Chicago. Plus, Dort isn't even the worst part or Flint. I've been in much worse closer to downtown or on the north side.

And yes, Flint is one of the shittiest cities in America. But as someone that has been in many, many, many ghettoes in America (don't ask - I do real estate site selection for an "urban retailer" so I have to travel to these areas,) it is hardly the worst.

Honestly, Detroit kind of takes the cake as far as I'm concerned. Jackson MS, Birmingham AL, Memphis, NOLA, an Pine Bluff AR are all very close behind.

  • I ran the bobby crim race in Flint a couple months ago and it was a nice suprise - there are some really nice areas along the route. It was one of the better races i have run in - a lot of people came out and there was a lot of flint pride that day. Flint isn't all bad in my book.

Sad. From what my parents tell me (and I have no idea if this is true and am too lazy too google) in the 1950's Flint had one of the highest per capita incomes of any city in America.

The the late 70's hit and it has been downhill from there. Where Buick City once stood is mile after mile of concrete pads left over after the plants were demolished. Like an atomic bomb went off or something.

Flint Coney Dogs are still the best, though.

In 1970, General Motors employed 85,000 people in the Flint area. Even before 2008-2009, I think the number was below 12,000 jobs. It was literally a company town and when the largest corporation in the world began to erode, Flint felt the greatest impact from that decline. Buick, Chevrolet, AC Spark Plug were the most promient divisions for decades in Flint. Also, in those days each division (Buick, Chevy, Olds, etc.) of GM at least in Michigan had separate Assembly, Forge, Fisher Body, stamping, Gear & Axle, and Engine assemply plants.

Or, as the conspiracy theory goes, GM never forgave Flint for starting the unionization of the auto industry, and abandoned the city.
