Stay away from Flint, MI

If you don't have the balls to do it at night, go down town for lunch one day. You will not be disappointed

    .

Last week I had to go to Hurley ER at 1030 PM for work. You ever been there at 1030 PM on a weekday? Its a goddamn circus. And how far is it from your beautiful downtown? 3 blocks? Thanks but I will pass on Flint restaurants.

But please do your part to help the city comeback. I would like to maintain my property value.

Flint is run down and desolate, yes. But it's not "scarier" than parts of Detroit and Chicago.

    I'd definitely agree with that.

North Philly is probably the shittiest area I've ever seen.

  • Flint is pretty crappy. I wouldn't say it's really dangerous unless you're looking in a specific area for trouble...in which case it's extremely dangerous. Stay away from the little box between 75/475/69 and you'll be ok.

If you're looking for a non-chain restaurant idea roughly in the Flint area (Burton, so you'll have to drive 5-10 minutes from downtown), this place has disturbingly addictive chips. It's family-owned, and the ambiance is generally quiet/dark. I've been there a handful of times, the outside is pretty rough looking, but it's nice on the inside. Prices are very reasonable.

Just turn in your man card for fucks sake. Do you need a tissue? Maybe a tampax?

I was in the ER at Hurley probably a month ago on a Friday night 1am with my grandma, if you think a weekday is bad try a weekend.

Did you attend a private school?

If you're scared of downtown Flint at 10:30pm, you're either a huge pussy or racist. My money's on both.

I used to go to Churchill's on Thursdays for college night in the summer. Saw Mateen their a few times. When you're 18-22, you have no fear getting hammered until 2 am with your friends in one of the most dangerous areas in the country.

Same here. Churchill's was the spot on College night... But there are tons of Grand Blanc (Go Bobcats!!) and Fenton and Powers Catholic kids in there from suburbia USA and downtown Flint even at 2am isn't scary at all...

I swear it seems like every time this dude posts something or when someone mentions how shitty an urban area is, someone's a racist. Shut the fuck up already man.

  • Are there still drive-thru liquor stores in Flint?
I spent a substantial amount of time on weekend nights as a High School student in "bad areas" of Flint buying alcohol from shady party stores. I remember a place called A-1 liquor that was notorious for selling to minors. They would charge like $20 for a case of Busch Light if you didn't have an ID. lol

I go back to the Flint area to visit family several times a year, but we never really go out anywhere. Hearing names like Churchills and Machine Shop remind me of the good old days.

Those are the two options. There is no rational reason to be afraid of downtown Flint.

It is interesting when someone has an opinion that is different from your own you spout racism and "scared". Its like calling the guy who banged your ex girlfriend a rapist.

Not one thing was written about being scared or a racist. If you spend time in downtown Flint or at Hurley you would see there are people of all walks of life. If you think Flint is a "nice place to live and spend time" then lets agree to disagree. In my opinion Flint being not a nixw place to be is as certain as the sky is blue. I can state the murder rates, violent crimes, poverty, unemployment rate, or how about all the goddamn boards on every other building and house.

How big is downtown Flint where people go to the bar or dinner? Two blocks? I choose not to go there when it is my choice. Thats it.

It's not just "your choice". You came into this thread to tell people to stay away, completely talking out of your ass.

So you tell people not to go there supported by absolutely no evidence other than... what? You haven't even offered any evidence as to why you wouldn't go there other than... what? Calling you a fraid-y pants, at best, and a racist, at worst, is because you gave us no reason for your opinion... other than, "it's my choice."

Why did you come to that conclusion? Why is it your choice?

Also, Hurley is not downtown. It's in a horrible area of the city on the way to downtown and no one is telling people to go there. That's like telling people not to go to Manhattan because the Bronx is shitty.

comparing Flint to any part of NYC is a waste of time. Flint has been so fucking broke and irrelevant for so fucking long that not even the criminals can be bothered to leave their homes.

I have nothing against the city, btw, to the extent that it can even be considered a city any longer. but there is not going to be a "turnaround" in Flint, ever. all of the industry left decades ago, and places like Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids have long since positioned themselves for pharma and services industries like finance, etc.

I think we should take some of these people, and send 'em up to Bear Mountain for a picnic.

  • I'm not going to say that Flint is a GREAT place to live, but there are areas around Flint where decent, hardworking people, can make a nice life and raise a family. But there are still a lot of pussies in this thread. There's no area that's worse than some areas of Detroit or any other big city. The areas that you shouldn't go to don't have any reason for you to go there anyway, so who the F cares?

This is my point. Hurley is walking distance to downtown." Its in a horrible area of the city." You say it like they are miles apart. I would say half a mile at the most.

Flint and Saginaw were both very nice small cities back in the day. then GM abandoned them and all of a sudden no one had a job.

everyone used to bitch about how much GM workers made, but now that they are gone, no one has two nickels to rub together.

Half mile at most? No way. A quick google map search puts it at over a mile. Also there's the fact that Hurley is north of the river and is basically in carriage town (which no one in their right mind would walk through unless it's Crim related). I don't know who would get more offended by saying there isn't much difference between the two neighborhoods. On one hand, you have a bunch of hipsters in carriage town. On the other hand, you have a bunch of students/office workers/socialites that hang out in downtown. Why would you walk from Hurley to downtown when most people know of free spots downtown that they use?

Seriously. Yes the area around Hurley is rough. Guess what. There's nothing around it and it's northwest of the river. Of course, it's in bad shape. POS is right. Discounting downtown because the area around a completely different part of town is idiotic.

1.3 Miles. And I would not walk that I was just making a point that an awful area of town is very close to luxurious downtown Flint. Does Flint even have a population of 100,000? How many people do you need to be considered a city?

There is a drive through store on Fenton Rd and one on Richfield.
