I think in this genre, you are making a mistake.

Fine. I've come to a realization.

Son, we live in a world that has music, and that music has to be guarded by men with pretentious taste. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Trevor? You Slicknickshadystatefan? Bob has greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for GoState18, and you curse 247. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That GoState18's love of power metal, while tragic, probably saved lives. And Bob’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want Bob’s advice on that music, you need Bob’s advice on that music. He uses words like “I’m not worried”, “We’re so in their heads”, smile_msu. He use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending sarcasm. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain Bob to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very entertainment that he provides, and then questions the manner in which he provides it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up an album and stand a post.Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

  • A few years old and no banjos (that I know of), but I like "Acoustic Extravaganza."

"Ashes" is one of my favorites from the album. Any time you hear the lyrics "I have pushed you way too far/And you say Fuck you little princess/Who the hell do you think you are" -- well -- $.

    Mumford and Sons

I am a self-described Mumford super-fan. If anyone wants MP3's of their live shows from the past 2 years, stuff from their early EP's, new, unreleased songs, I'm your gal! biggrin

Saw Dawes and Elephant Revival Friday night. Elephant Revival has a bit of a Celtic Feel to them. Dawes is fast becoming one of my favorites.

Also enjoying Hoots and Hellmouth currently (seeing them at The Ark in March), The Head and the Heart, Seryn ... and many of the others mentioned here. Good friend from State is a Ha Ha Tonka fanatic.

I have reason to believe that Rocky and I are cool...

but let's just say that there is a very specific person that doesn't appreciate my existence... and this individual doesn't know that I know what I might know..

Could you diagram that sentence, please?

  • Lots of great picks already mentioned. Here's a few more, several in the "roots" of folk rock but still great.

o Richard & Linda Thompson - "Shoot Out the Lights", "I Want See the Bright Lights Tonight" ( both used to be listed by Rolling Stone in their Top 100 of all time)
o Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief ( in addition to Unhalfbricking)
o Wailin' Jennys - 40 Days (outstanding female harmonies)
o Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road (absolute classic on the edge of the genre)
o Iris Dement - Infamous Angel (if you can tolerate some twang)
o Sandy Denny - No More Sad Refrains (Best of. Denny, the only guest artist to sing on a Zep album, "Battle for Evermore"
o Great Big Sea - Play
o Nic Jones - Penguin Eggs (a guitar based classic in '70s early English folk)

Ah, so you're already a fan thumbsup

Great album, I really like April as well though it's not generally as well regarded. I'm also a big fan of Old Ramon; Void and Cruiser are two of my favorite RHP tunes.

I also thought Rock and Roll Singer was surprisingly good.

I loved April as well. The last one was great, but a bit too much of the same to stay in the rotation very long. RHP hasn't ever quite struck me the same.

  • You really can't top the mid 60's Dylan inspired folk rock movement. A really great group popped up in the late 80's folk rock revival - The Wahsintgon Squares - folk rock with a beatnik sensibility that the modern wave seems to lack.
