THAT'S why I love Izzo

Jesus. My god. How is he not hurt.

Not only is he not hurt, but got the rebound and called time out from the ground. That's why he got the Izzo love.

I'd give my left nut for that kid to be on the team next year.

This is the fall, i can't find the rebound

the gif is worthless without the rest of the play and the reason why Izzo hugged Payne. And ESPN is worthless for not showing the entire progression of what led to Izzo's hug. The dude landed on his back, and in pain, found enough energy to fight for the loose ball and call a time out. That's the kind of shit Izzo LOVES to see and the reason he was so emotional.

You're going to love it when you see. I was yelling "HOLY SHIT!" when I saw Payne with the ball calling a time out. Izzo's hug was the icing on the cake of an amazing sequence. Too bad they turned it over on the ensuing inbounds play though. banghead lol

  • Tom's emotion on Payne's play is such a statement about Izzo. . . it totally illustrates what he values in the game from his players. Payne has missed a slam dunk. . . and takes one of the hardest falls of the season on his shoulder. . . very briefly slumping on the floor. But the ball pops loose and Payne recovers from his fall. . . . diving and successfully wrestling the ball away from others in a scrum, and then calls a time out before the ref can call a traveling violation on Payne's gyrations on the floor. Toughness and never say die. . . a moment we might not have seen had AP made the dunk, but I'll connect this play to AP for many years to come.

That and he was probably pretty happy Payne didn't snap his neck in half on the landing.

I think after he was initially stunned and then tried to get up enough to move and not get trampled only to see the ball loose close enough to him to instinctively get the damn thing. I can understand the basic instinct of see ball go get ball. I'm shocked he had the faculties about him to call timeout after falling that hard. The whole sequence really is amazing.

Here is a vadger fan description (from their board another site) of Payne's play

Payne lay motionless/unconscious on the ground after free-falling 10 feet and simultaneously landing on his head and shoulder. When he awakes from his stupor, groggy minded and fazed, he realizes that he is in the midst of a basketball game.

While still recovering from his trauma induced incident and lying motionless on the floor, the basketball bounces between three red jerseys into his hands for an offensive rebound. Quickly, Payne calls a 30 second time out and MSU keeps possession.

That was from a thread of vadger fans ripping their team after the game. lol

  • Was at work and got to peek at the game a little. Just watched the replay of Payne. He could have easily given up on the play but NO! That tough SOB was smart enough to get his head on his shoulders. Grab the rebound and get the timeout. Love the toughness and effort! GO GREEN

  • I wish I could find a good photo of that. Of course Freep doesn't have one. Nothing on Det News yet. No photo on LSJ.com.

Best moment of the game and no photo? WTF?
