Tell me about Chandler, Arizona

  • I have to spend 11 days in Chandler, Arizona visiting family that I havn't seen in a while. They keep asking me what I want to do but since I have never been here before, I have no ideas (obviously). Anybody have any familiarity with the area that they could share? Thanks in advance.

It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.

  • I'd go hangout with ghost personally and play tummy sticks. You know, if you are into that sort of thing.

  • It's just a suburb of Phx. Check out a Diamondbacks game, go up to Scottsdale, hit some bars around ASU. It's a large, sprawling area, there's plenty of stuff to do.

  • Well, I'm not Arizona, but I'll give it a go:

Chandler started out as a witty, sardonic character who seemed unfulfilled despite a fair amount of success in his early career. Chandler's self doubt may have been due to his roommate Joey Tribiani's considerable sexual prowess, or perhaps because Chandler's best friend Ross couldn't walk down the street without finding a woman willing to marry him.

Eventually, Chandler outkicked his coverage and began dating Monica (Ross' sister). Chandler and Monica went on to marry, and Chandler seemed to finally find happiness, contentment and a purpose in life. Then they made 2 more seasons simply because the money was good, and they all sucked as actors.

ASU bars. Even in the summer, hot hot ass. Go to the bars around the Cardnials football stadium, it's awesome.

  • As others have said, Chandler is just a burb. Nice part of town, but you won't be overwhelmed with the night life or anything. Some nice restaurant options over by Chandler Fashion Square. That said, there is plenty to do in the Phoenix area. It really depends on what you're into. Its hot now, so a lot of activities center around a pool or lake. I head out to Barlett Lake to do a little wakeboarding and ogling nearly every weekend. That's kind of my summer routine. If you like golf, there are too many great courses to mention. There are about 4 casinos that are easy driving distance from Chandler too. I prefer Talking Stick, but Wild Horse Pass is great too. The D-Backs are obviously an option too, but you can even catch a rookie ball game at any number of Spring training stadiums that are all over town. Hiking and Biking are an option, but we've hit triple digits out here so you need to be prepared for the heat. I stick to the early mornings myself because even at dusk its hotter than a bisquit. Tempe is cool, but school is out so there's less student traffic. Definitely hit old town. Plenty of great restaurants, bars and clubs. IN FACT...... my business partners and I just opened a place. It's called Kelly's at Southbridge. We're in the soft opening phase, but we're now open 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Great food, great atmosphere.

Glendale sucks. Don't spend 45 minutes in a car to waste your time at Westgate. Its a ghost land when there isn't a hockey/football game going on and there is significantly less talent on the west side. That's just a fact. Tempe is OK, but if you're looking for hot ass, its 100% old town in the summer. Tobie Keith's is worth checking out if you're into country though. Always some nice trim in cowboy hats in there. If you really wanna see some fine ass hit the W pool on a weekend afternoon. Definitely some douches there, but your neck will be sore at the end of the day.

  • listen to 007. couldn't agree more and i live in Tempe.

There is Stand up Live in downtown phoenix with copper blues which is a fun bar next to it. That was a really fun night for me and they have some pretty good headliners there too.

I think Scottsdale (Olde town) specifically isn't that great, but its all personal preference.
Olde town bar was a fun little bar in old town, but i'm really not that familiar with Scottsdale to give good suggestions.

Keep drinking water too. it should be mild but definitely keep hydrated.

  • If you are going to be there with your wife or significant other, check into one of the Scottsdale resorts for a few days. They offer fantastic incentives in the summer. The Weston Kierland and several other resorts have pretty nice water parks attached.

    Huh? Not sure if serious.....

Cards stadium is around 30 miles away from chandler and the bars suck. Margaritaville is there lol

My advice: day trip to Sedona, hit grand canyon, hike camelback if it's not too hot, drink lots of water, old town Scottsdale depending on how old you are

  • It's a massive suburb of almost 250K. Pretty nice burb with some decent bars and good dining. Sandbar isn't bad for nightlife. Mido sushi is all you can eat for $20. If you are under 30 and single, you might want to rent a hotel room in Scottsdale, and hit up the clubs. The W is nice if you can get in(that is if you have someone roughly your age to hang out with. You don't want to be the creeper by himself at the club). If you are with family, maybe hit up a d-backs game. My favorite restaurants. 1. Rokerij/Richardson's(New Mexican food) 2. J and G's Steakhouse(if you want to check out the Phoenician) 3. The Ocean Club, 4. Oreganos or The Parlor for Italian(not as expensive as the first three I listed)...I would head up to Sedona to get away from the heat, and do a pink jeep tour. The valley is unbearable this time of year. You should have a good time with your family. Phoenix is an ok place.

You know the chicks on the westside will put out because they've all had a kid by 17.

Me and my boys have dubbed the entire west side Mordor.

Some good spots on your list. Definitely hit Sedona, but I also love the Payson/strawberry area. There are a few breathtaking hikes along the rim and it knot takes about 90 minutes to get up there.

I drove through Payson on my journey away from AZ. Absolutely gorgeous up there. I would also hit up fountain hills. I got married out in fountain hills, so that place will always be special to me.

  • I stayed in Chandler last week on business and second the 90 minute day trip to Sedona. It's absolutely gorgeous and about 15 degrees cooler than the Phoenix area. I didn't eat in Chandler but there's a Ruby's BBQ just off of I-10 on Chandler Rd. Outstanding BBQ but can be busy. You'll be 15 minutes from Old Town Scottsdale. Do that. If you're into Frank Lloyd Wright architecture go see Taliesen West in north Scottsdale.

Fossil Creek is an awesome hike down to a waterfall and swimming hole and a cave carved out to swim in. it was so much fun 2 weekends ago. great relief.
4 mile hike out and back.

Do you mean "Rudy's BBQ"? My cousin was telling me that its fantastic so we are going tomorrow. We are going to "The Big Bang" dueling piano bar on Mill Street in Tempe tonight I guess. I've never been to a dueling piano bar but I assume that there will be a piano or two.

Oops, yes Rudy's. Get the moist brisket.

I am here until next sunday (June 3rd). I do have access to a vehicle and I fancy a nice adventure from time to time.

If you want the BEST trip in Arizona and have the time, you'll need 2-3 days, then I'd go to Supai. You drive up to the Hualapai Indian Reservation way the fuck up west of Grand Canyon and hike ten miles to this obscure little Native American village INSIDE the Grand Canyon. There is a stream there that passes bits of travertine on the bed and it creates beautiful, spectacular blue waterfalls. We go every year. My favorite place in Arizona. You can book a room at the lodge. It's truly a magical place. PM me if you're seriously interested and you can give me a call and I can give you more information. We're going at the end of July for three days.
