Frankenmuth could be interesting to check out too, especially if you're German. It's not really "close" but it's not too far away. If you REALLY like Christmas then Bronner's is a must at some point in your life.

Do me a favor....head out to the city forest. There's two toboggan runs there. Walk about halfway up the nearest one (the return run) and cross over into the woods towards the second. Should be a 15 year old bag of chronic somewhere in there along with a wooden bowl. Find it and PM me. TIA!!!!

I just moved there in January. Lots of outdoor stuff to do. Not a lot of bars, but Diamond Jims has free food on weekdays from 3:30-7 and well priced drinks as well. Genji is great for sushi. There's also a bbq place near genjis that's supposed to be good. Going there on Friday, will report back.

About a half hour northwest of Midland is the town of Beaverton. The Beaverton Tavern used to make some mean burritos. I imagine they still do, but I have been there in almost 10 years.

Second the recommendations for Big E's at the Holiday Inn near the mall. Good pizza and craft beers on tap that were new to me, coming back home from Seattle for my mom's 80th B-Day. Went to Buck's Run Golf course just this side of Mt. Pleasant with my brothers and had a great round. Price was good too, $40 for 18 and a cart last week.

Moved here about a year ago with 3 kids 10 and under and I completely agree. Kids love it and because Dow is always moving people around virtually everyone is from somewhere else and very accepting of "outsiders.".

Reporting back. Bone Daddy's BBQ is pretty awesome. Highly recommended.

Never heard of it, but I just moved here in January. I think it's in Sanford according to google though. Their website doesn't give a location.

Lived in the Tri-City area (Midland/Bay City/Saginaw) for 3 years. This pretty well sums it up. Midland has a Theater, public gardens, and top-notch public infrastructure (schools, streets, parks, minor league ballpark, etc). All catered to the brainiac engineers Dow Corp hires.

Thur. the burger night at the legion beats it. It was alwasy packed that night however I haven't been in the last year so, don't know they stiil do this. The Boulevard does have pretty good food though.

I think my sister said they might be shutting down Dow High, anyone know if this is true?

I don't see how they could or why they would. Dow is the newer of the two high schools, ranked in the top 20 as far as high schools in Michigan, and they just recently did a multimillion dollar renovation.
