Tell me about Toronto/Niagara Falls

  • Taking my girlfriend on vacation to Toronto and gonna hit Niagara Falls for a day as well, leaving on thursday July 27th and coming back on Monday. Is there enouvgh to do in Toronto to fill up three days? The Tigers will be in town and I'm going to fulfill my life long dream of seeing a day game in the Rogers Centre, but that's most of what I have planned.

Edit: won't let me attach pics. Use your imaginations.

  • Traffic in Toronto and surrounding cities can really really suck. At least there are cool buildings to look at with balconies upwards of 50 stories. Great place to jump to your death if you're into that sorta thing. Really though Ive been through there 3-4 times and enjoyed it

  • I hear the barrel ride down Niagara Falls is excellent.

There is PLENTY to do in Toronto. In the very downtown, you've got the CN Tower next door to SkyDome (suck a bag of dicks, Rogers), which is stunning. Hockey Hall of Fame, as beal99 mentioned. There's also Centre Island, with the ferries to get across a block south of the Air Canada Centre.

  • Toronto is awesome in the summer. CNN Tower and Hockey HOF are worth going to... We stayed in a reasonable hotel off St James Park - it is walking distance to St. Lawrence Market and The Distillery District which has some decent restaurants, shops and bars. It's easy to get around on the Trolleys. Stay on the Canadian side of the Falls - it is much cleaner and well maintained. The Maid of the Mist is fun...

  • View Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. You can get closer to the water, and the view is simply better.

In Toronto, don't miss the Museum of Natural Science. Hands on, fascinating stuff for kids AND adults. And don't plan to drive much once in TO proper. Traffic is tough, and the public transportation is wonderful. Busses, trains and subways all work, were clean the last time I was there, and schedules synch so that they all three work together. Best public transportation system with multiple types of transport I've seen in any city, anywhere.

  • Niagara Falls--cool to see, but one of the world's biggest tourist traps. It's everything a natural wonder shouldn't be.

  • The Niagra leg of this trip can be a great date. The Niagra region is Canada's wine country and the wineries are open, friendly, picturesque. Free samples, tours, those kind of things. Of course, Niagra Falls. It is a tourist trap, buit the falls are impressive. The Canadian side is newer, cleaner, better than the Buffalo side, although there is a park on the American side that provides a close up view of the falls and the canadian skyline. If you're spending the night, take a look at Niagra on the Lake, a cool, artsy, lush town north of the Falls. Great hotel, there, the Prince of Wales. If you can't stay there, at least have a drink. Google this, you'll see what I mean. Doesn't have the casinos that the Canadian Falls has, but, wine country, the Falls and Niagra on the Lake...trust me, a great date. Have fun.

  • The fact that Niagara Falls has been so commercialized - with crap surrounding the falls themselves - makes me appreciate our national parks so much more. Our national parks are beautiful...as Niagara Falls should be. Imagine if everybody parked a couple miles away, there was no development, and you suddenly came up on the falls with nature all around you?

  • If you're into tigers, baboons and stuff, check out the African Lion Safari just outside of Hamilton. We went there as kids and I took my kids there. Just checked their admission, though. Yikes. But we took our vacation when the exchange rate was ridiculously favorable. Chinatown in Toronto is pretty interesting. Niagara Falls is touristy, but the beauty of the falls kind of blocked the rest of the stuff out. The Maid of the Mist was fun and it cooled us down because it was really hot that day. They liked the tower ride there, along with a trip through the wax museum and Ripley's museum. We had a lot of fun. Enjoy!

I love Science Museums, and that's a nice one. I haven't been in years, though.

    Me too! wave

I'll be in Toronto with the family from 27-29 July and am taking my kids to their first-ever baseball game on the 28th.

I'll be on the lookout for anybody wearing any MSU clothing. I can see it now -- I walk up to a total stranger and say, "Hi, are you Ass Dan?"

  • Look out for bed bugs in Niagara Falls. We were going to go last summer but I bailed us out because all of the hotel reviews I read online were rampant with reports of bed bugs.
