For that price I am guessing a variable aperture lens that is probably around f/5.6 when fully zoomed. Great in daylight but restrictive when used indoors without additional light/flash/strobe. A 70-200mm f/2.8 lens is going to set you back around $1800-$2000 for Nikon/Canon. You can buy third-party lenses from Sigma, Tokina, etc for a bit less but not as sharp, imho.
The images aren't that bad. You could try noise reduction and sharpening the photos a bit with some software.

What is the make/model of your camera? I can only speak to Nikon since that is what I use. The 70-200mm f/2.8 is definitely a beefy lad and certainly not small. I wasn't aware arenas could limit the type of lens brought into the facility.

Canon t3. I was surprised the first time I went and tried to get in the lens, it is only about 5 or 6 inches but the security said anything over 6 inches connected to the body wasn't allowed in during games. Next game hid it in the bottom of the baby bag and they never even looked or cared, so I'm guessing it has more to do with who is at security.
