That Chrysler commercial gave me goosebumps

  • I clapped at a bar in Virginia, and got a bunch of Packer fans to clap with me. Didn't hurt that I was cheering with them all game to beat the racist.

Was really a great commercial. I'm guessing the 200 is replacing the Sebring? Will have to ask my pops.

Glad I bought a new Grand Cherokee. Can't wait to replace the wifey's in a year or 2 with something domestic.

Good luck. My '08 just spent a month and 4 days in the shop because Chrysler no longer makes the 13 dollar part used in the factory and they couldn't figure out who the hell does. No matter how much the commercials make you think things have changed, they haven't. Quality still blows and customer service is worse.

Oddly enough, when I picked mine up on Saturday, somebody else had just brought theirs in with the same problem that can't be fixed.

To say things aren't changing is pretty BS. The Big 3 have stepped up their game a shit load in the last decade or so. Things break, no car is perfect. Sorry you had a bad experience.

This is true, but my wife's Durango was nothing but trouble too. I tried doing the right thing after my MI education led me to some nice paychecks. Got burned over and over, now the Durango's an Armada amd I'll be at the Infinity dealership tomorrow.

Fair enough. I think Chryslers the worst of the 3. My folks had a 97 explorer they would still be driving but the transmission blew 2 years ago and I could get the the employee discount on a new car through a buddy. They ended up getting a 2009 Escape and frankly if I didn't live in a city I would be seriously considering the hybrid one. It drives beautifully and has a great interior and features for the price.

Positive press for Detroit, which is rare these days. Hopefully, the city can carry this forward. Great cities don't die easy. Hopefully, the seemingly last breathe of a once great metropolis is the first breathe of a Phoenix, once again rising from the ashes.

  • as a detroit ex-pat that commercial was emblematic of the pride, toughness, grit and general good nature of detroit. i loved it because it said: hey man, we are america. we are you. we work hard. we are trying. it ain't easy, but this is what we got and ya know what, you hit us with yr best shot and this is how we hang. we back.

    glory.

It is the replacement for the Sebring. Unfortunately since the redesign is a few years away, the Avenger/200 are heavily updated(though not as much as the Charger, 300, etc).

The MIL has had a total nightmare with their Grand Cherokee too. I also know some people in the auto auction buisness and they've never said a good word about the Grand Cherokees.

I believe the MIL's is about an 08 as well.

I'm VERY impressed with the newer Grand Cherokee though myself.

You guys are unabashed Detroit apologists and should be ashamed.

"Hooray, there's still enough left that we haven't RUINED from one of the greatest cities in America, and at one point THE WORLD, that we can put together 60 seconds of propoganda starring the guy that is the impetus for the wigger flat brim dbags we all hate. Hooray Detroit"

Detroit is 80% effed, and 20% great. The sheer size of the city is so immense that OF COURSE there's enough left to make a commercial.

Of course people are going to bag on Detroit that haven't been there, Can I not bag on Mogadishu or Youngstown Ohio for being shelled out abandoned shitholes even though I haven't been there.

And I've been to Detroit, I vacationed in Detroit, I see the potential / past when I'm there. Almost all of the greatness is currently untapped or permanently gone.

Yes, the point of this is mostly to destroy my star rating.

Infinity? Really? The same car maker with quality ratings below that of Ford and hovering around the industry average for number of defects per vehicle? loco

Oh because their foreign they must be better... deadhorse

I guess it is an upgrade over Chrysler.

As someone not from Michigan and who unapologetically doesn't give a rip whether "Detroit" is "successfull" or not. I thought it was a great commercial that showed off a decent looking car (not my taste but I can understand why people like it). The problem is that when the rest of the country views Detroit as a hopeless shit hole filled with gangs and just generally bad everything then that carries over to Michigan's primary industry and people start buying Kias and shit instead of Fords for no other reason than conflating Gangs and shit holes with Ford and Chevy. That's stupid and hurts the state.

I graduated with a lot of people that moved into some areas of Downtown. I think the city leaders are making a legit push to revitalize as much of it as possible. Will it ever be as great as it once was? No probably not, but the world is a different place now than it was then, so it's probably unrealistic to ever judge it by it's WWII standard, or whenever you think it was one of the greatest cities in the world.

I think that commercial is a good start at tapping some of the greatness left in the city by simply working on changing the perception of Detroit. Tourist destination? No. Automatically turning down a job requiring you to move there? Maybe not so much anymore.
