The 25 Douchiest Bars in Chicago

  • #1 of course is Barleycorn. The place that Chitown Badger defends to no end... Bros will be bros.

It's a pretty good list of shittiness overall and pretty much covers the worst of the worst.

  • The Lincoln Park Barleycorn is actually decent since there's a little history in there. Richard Gere filmed a scene from Primal Fear in there.

Is this a 25 page slideshow?

Please just give us the list.

Hate these money grabbing slideshow lists.

  • Douchiest bar in Chicago---WITHOUT QUESTION---is Duffy's on Diversey.

And it's a UofM bar to boot. That place is insufferably douchy.

    Howler

  • Just curious.

How does one define a bar as 'douchey?'

Wrong. I defend the one on Lincoln. Remember, I go to that place as a passive MSU football fan, and I do so for the following reasons:

    - Hopefully watch ND, scUM, or OSU lose
    - Great game day special that includes drinks and food
    - Lots of hot chicks
    - Lots of TVs
    - Decent bar
    - Great outdoor space
    - Decent atmosphere for your games
    - Crowded but not shoulder to shoulder

And I'm usually there with friends, so I'm really only looking to chat with people about the game or games that are on. More often than not there are people around outside my group for just that.

  • As an aside, virtually any club that does bottle service would destroy every one of these bars on the douchebag factor.

Bar that caters to white, upwardly mobile midwestern twenty somethings who went to a Big Ten school. (But usually not Northwestern)

Majored in something like business or finance; lots of law school grads too.

Loves to watch the big game with his bros. Partakes in Chicago's St. Pattys day festivities.

Will be in suburbs by the time he's 30, or will have moved back to Michigan or whatever Big Ten state he came from.

    You know, douchey.

I'm usually not checking out the guys, but I guess I could see it. O'Malley's seems like it would be the younger version of Barleycorn. And that bar is dark...if I'm going to be drinking on a saturday afternoon I prefer to be as close to outside or in the sun as possible.

  • Fullerton Ave is a strange dividing line for lincoln bars, its odd. hi tops, b-dubs, irish eyes, clarkes, pretty laid back (though it does get somewhat bro-ey on Sat nights at hi tops), south of fullerton with barleycorn, kincades, kendalls, o malleys, its like an age boundary :) Also, I see more affliction shirts south of Fullerton

Thanks for proving your douche-ness. Yes....Cause everyone who sees it as douchy is going to check out the guys. Yes, everyone is gay who is talking about the people who hang out at Barleycorn.

Speaking of north-of-Fullerton drinking establishments, is Red Lion Tap still shuttered? That pub was the anti-douche and I had 2 final exams with my profs in there.

    How is that douchey?

I laugh at these 'douchiest' lists because they look like they were made by self-righteous, socially-inept people who think making lists like this will get back at the people that looked down on them in middle school.

FTR, I wasn't in the Greek system at MSU, didn't major in business or finance, and love watching games with my 'bros' because they're actually into the game. What pisses me off to no end is the wastes of space at a sports bar who have no clue about the game and are just there to look cool or with the 'in' crowd.

  • Newsflash: Some people like going to bars to get drunk and rowdy.

Who said I don't fit some of that criteria either? We all need to look in the mirror.

White and upwardly mobile? I guess

    Big Ten school? Yep, MSU

Likes to watch games with my bros? Absolutely.

Left Chicago when I was 30? Yep.

Majored in something soul sucking? Hell no. I'm an intellectual, and that alone offsets me from the douche crowd.

    cool
