The 25 Douchiest Bars in Chicago

  • McDaddens is ridiculous. I feel like it's like Ricks all over again.

    MIST

  • Whatever.

The douchiest places are undoubtedly the ones that don't let people in because they look a certain way.

The ones that try to imitate the exclusivity of a vapid, exclusive, and superficial club in NYC are the worst.

Trace? Fado? Mother's? Mother's Too? Who the hell even goes to those bars?

Haha, I went to Mothers once. Actually closed the place down on a 5AM night. I was fucked up enough where I actually had a pretty good time, but would have hated that place if I had less than a .15 BAC. A really grubby place.

  • think of Stefons voice from SNL

Trace has everything: douchebags, bros, little room to stand or sit, and look over there—is that a reasonably priced beer selection and a low key atmosphere? No, it's a pretentious bartender who thinks every drink order is a personal affront to their human rights.

    LOL awesome.

Yeah....Like O'Malley's. Was packed for an MSU game. The upstairs was showing the game. Wouldn't let people up there wearing hats. Was with a group of 8 20-30 somethings, all wearing hats. It was 5 or 6 PM on a Thursday during an MSU game. Dress code.

I think that has more to do with "keeping the black people out" than it does "creating an environment of douchiness".

  • I don't understand how they can include some wrigleyville bars and not others.
Is Rockit or Merkle's really any less douchey than Casey Morans or Cubby Bear at 1am on a Saturday?

Seems like they could've just said "Wrigleyville" and left it at that, although I will still frequent them before/after Cubs games. lol

    which is STUPID STUPID STUPID

Look, I understand dress codes at downtown clubs or soemthing where the wrong color might start some shit, but O Malleys is full of drunk big ten grad/depaul students.

though i will say this, I was outside on their stoop one saturday a few years ago, and some guy yelled at some other guy for wearing a non MSU shirt, and the other guy lost his shit, that was a lot of blood on the pavement.

but for a Thursday at 6? CMON, you aren't the damn Underground or something

  • If I owned a bar in Chicago, I'd want it to be as douchey as possible. Those are likely the people who spend the most money of any demographic.

Bar that caters to white, upwardly mobile midwestern twenty somethings who went to a Big Ten school. (But usually not Northwestern)

Majored in something like business or finance; lots of law school grads too.

Loves to watch the big game with his bros. Partakes in Chicago's St. Pattys day festivities.

Will be in suburbs by the time he's 30, or will have moved back to Michigan or whatever Big Ten state he came from.

    You know, douchey.

You mean like just about any Big 10 grad who moves to Chicago?

The "club" type places like Spybar are douchey. The rest are pretty much 20-something sports bars/meat markets. They're just an extension of college, except you go back to a chick's studio in Wicker Park instead of to her house on Abbott at the end of the night.

They could have just saved a ton of time and said "The Northside, East of Ashland and North of Grand is Douchey".

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    Anywhere on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast, Clark and Division bars, Bars on Lincoln and Belden, the bars that are up on Southport pretty much to Addison . . . and then across to Addison and Clark, down through Wrigley. . . .

So basically the whole North Side from Irving Park on South to Grand that's mainly serviced by the Redline. lol

Or, where all the 23-35 year olds live.

In other words, being 23-35 makes you a douche, more likely than not.lol

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • any bar where you have people there that check their smartphones for whatever reason. We get it, tough guy...you have a touch screen smartphone. What a dooshbag!

I like how you draw the line at Ashland, as if there isn't a single douchebag in Bucktown/Wicker Park. lol

Full disclosure: I'm a "Big 10 grad" who moved to Chicago in his mid 20's. I didn't major in finance or business, I'm over 30 and I live in the city with no intention of moving to the burbs, but I do like watching big games with my friends and also sometimes go out on St Patricks day.

  • how about the bars where guys wear buttoned down shirts, but don't tuck them in? DOOSHBAG CENTRAL!!

    Just curious.

How does one define a bar as 'douchey?'

    When hipsters feel unwelcomed.

If you're wearing jeans with a shirt tucked into them (button down or otherwise), you're probably a douche bag.

It'd be pretty cool to watch Sparty/Herky sometime with the Rock-man.

Not at all, Wicker Park includes it as well, but I'm saying you can pretty much blanket that area I listed above and 9/10 bars will be douchey.

Wicker Park has been totally gentrified.

Look no further than Piece Pizza (which is excellent by the way)

That place has become the ultimate hangout for d-bags.
