The 25 Douchiest Bars in Chicago

  • Phil McCrackin said...

Long Room - Irving Park and Ashland I've never seen a douche bag in that place and they have a great beer selection. They are kind of beer snobs though, which may qualify as douchebags in some circles.

Also, Grace and Leavitt is okay if you're in the neighborhood. Corner tavern that is 100% douchebag free.

Further south I like Tavish at Wayne and Wrightwood. Also Revolution Brewing in Logan Square is solid. Birds Nest at Southport and Altgeld is mostly douchebag free, though gets a little overflow from the nearby douchey bars.

There are plenty of bars on the northside of Chicago that are not overly douchey.

I live a total of 1.5 blocks from Birds Nest. I love that place.

Been to Hopleaf? Great beer selection.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Whichever one my friends are at.

Seriously, to me it's about who you're out with, not where you're at. Rarely have I walked into a bar with a group of friends and failed to have a good time.

I live a little North of Fullerton and a little East of Southport. I go out at the Lincoln Park bars, though sometimes I'll go to Old Town/River North. I rarely go to Wrigleyville or the Clark/Division bars anymore.

Sounds like you're next to the Gaslight, which is a good spot for us aging folk.

Also, did you hear about neighboring DePaul? very cool

i like the gingerman, just a blockand half up from caseys, guy that owns it is from south haven, laiiiiiiid back, as no one seems to bother with it

People always seem to head south out of wrigley. I'm partial to Full Shilling up that way. Great cheap food, good drink specials, a bit older crowd. Gingerman is almost too laid back.

Come to think of it, I probably only need my ten fingers to count the number of lakeview bars I've never been in.

Good for him, though. Like a poster above pointed out, I'm sure there's a crap load of money to make off of douches willing to drop $11 for a Jagerbomb.

Rockit wrigley, and possibly Rockit river north, are both Michigan bars.

come on...I really like Merkle's, but usually avoid Cubby Bear like the plague...more because it's a dark bar filled with people in from Schaumburg for the game, not douchebags. Casey Moran's usually has a ton of hot chicks on game days and a nice beer garden and rooftop.

I haven't been inside the Cubby Bear in years, but I have to be honest... all of those wrigleyville bars seem basically the same to me.
I don't have a problem with Merkle's in particular, but it's not like the bros just skip over that one and move on to the next.

Anyway, if you're in Wrigleyville you have already resigned to the fact that you're going to be surrounded by douchbags. Also, you're probably hammered or well on your way to getting hammered, so it probably doesn't matter

Amen to that. Hell, if I'm going to a cubs game, wrigleyville is a lot of fun. If I'm at Vine's before the first pitch, sure there will be some dbags there, but it'll be warm and sunny and I'll be in the beer garden, surrounded by people having a great time and a ton of eye candy. There are worse things (like the play of the Cubs).

Gold Coast, Clark and Division bars, Bars on Lincoln and Belden, the bars that are up on Southport pretty much to Addison . . . and then across to Addison and Clark, down through Wrigley. . . .

So basically the whole North Side from Irving Park on South to Grand that's mainly serviced by the Redline. lol

Or, where all the 23-35 year olds live.

In other words, being 23-35 makes you a douche, more likely than not.lol

    Disagree.

  • Fucking Christ.

Any place that has a population that can't understand that alcohol is supposed to bring people together should be on the list.

For every 'bro' there is a tattooed hipster who is equally pretentious in the opposite way.

    This list is horseshit.

    Not really.

I'm tired of these stupid lists. Call me crazy but being cliquey and labeling places as 'douchey' sounds like it belongs in middle-school.

For example, in San Francisco, many people from the Mission (think artsy/eclectic) look down on the Marina (think Lincoln Park) and vice versa. What these fools don't realize is they're not terribly dissimilar, save for their appearance. Drinking, partying, enjoying the outdoors, and chasing girls are all things they have in common.

The pretentious pricks from both groups are so god damn insecure about their own identities that they have to look down on each other.

    It's annoying.

Or it could just be that lists are kinda fun, spawn discussion and help kill the work day.

You know who else has a great cuban sandwich, and really great food and food specials in general? Trader Todd's. I'm not kidding. I think on Wednesdays they have a $5 half slab with fries, and three dollar beers. So I got two. Couldn't finish them both, but I was close.

edit: you may have to endure some karaoke.

Just because they're not on the top 25 list of dooshiest places doesn't give them a pass to claim they aren't dooshy. The jury is out on that place...we'll be the ones that decide.

It's just north of Wrightwood on the west side of the street.

Chi-Town used to have amazing beer specials.
