The Deep Web

  • Anyone ever been there? I'm thinking about checking it out. Am I an idiot?

    Buffalo Spartan

  • Surprised that no one ever commented on this thread. I'm extremely curious about the deep Web. Any techies out there to shed advice?

I am on a Mac, what further steps do I need to do to protect myself?

    Here is a tutorial:

  • Maybe we'll find out if the answer is: 2 or 288?

  • First, you should check out tDeep Search Function.

    Question about 4/chan and Anonymous

Earlier tonight I was reading an article and I watched a video from Anonymous threatening to expose members and associates of the Zetas drug

  • I've never tried, and have no intention to. I imagine that it would end the way the movie Event Horizon did.

  • I always likened the deep web to that time of night during which momma said nothing good ever happened.

  • The surface web is full of assholes and stupid crap. Why would you willingly go to a place with a higher concentration of assholes and stupid crap?

  • One of my friends put it best: if you have no intention of committing crimes on the internet, there is no reason to go to the deep web. Ever.

Didn't we have a thread about this somewhere ago?

  • You really have to become involved in communities or know a lot more than I do about computers to make the deep web interesting. Hidden wiki was fun to browse for a couple nights but that's it. Way too much cp down there too.

So, is this place like the "Stonecutters" of the Internet, i.e. holding back the electric car and such???

What's the deal, crime, nerds, porn the likes of which surface internet dwellers couldn't comprehend?

  • Here is my question. What is your goal in diving into the deep web? What is it you are hoping to find that you cant get in the shallow web?

Well, I read up on it a bit the last time this came up.

First of all, people are just interested in what else is out there. Especially something with an outlaw reputation like the Deep Web.

I learned that Bit Coins are the currency of the Deep Web, and literally anything is for sale. There lies the problem, they aren't selling stuff that Walmart carries, it's illicit (and sometimes sickening) stuff.

There's a place called the Silk Road where any kind of drug imaginable is for sale. Apparently, it's real, though I'm sure there are organized crime types that have ripped off newbs.

One of the problem with the Deep Web is that posters there think it's funny to mis-label something interesting, and when you click it, you find yourself in a child porn online store. Sick stuff like that, stuff that can get you arrested and put on a sex offender list. Just good LOLs for the pranksters in the Deep Web.

I also read that it's really hard to navigate, and you probably need someone that knows their way around. Most of the pages on the internet aren't indexed, and that's done by design.

Oh, and use a TOR browser, or you're going to have every somewhat skilled hacker perusing your hard drive (and perhaps looking at you through your webcam). Even with a TOR browser, I'm sure you're risking getting yourself hacked much more than you would anywhere else.

I do have a TOR browser, but I only use it to do "invasions" on a certain message board. [wink]

This! I d/l'd TOR and I tried to go use it and I got this message:

The proxy server is refusing connections

Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.

Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working.

    What do I do now?

  • It's a good way to see gore, CP, and maybe some snuff films.. if your in to that kind of thing. Thats about it... not worth your time.

Were you trying to access onion sites on your regular Mozilla? You have to go into your files and literally start tor.

There is allegedly a video on it of a child getting his head chopped off and a grown man jerking it on his neck stump.

THAT is how deep. THAT is when I decided I was never, EVER going to set foot in so horrifying a place.

That's like saying mgoblog is a website, so I've decided to NEVER turn on a computer.

Not every website is like what you have mentioned.

My friend uses the silk road to buy stuff on it. I have seen it shipped to his house in the mail so I know it's legit but it's pricey.
