The Detroit Lions to the Super Bowl?

  • According to David Zirin who is the Sports Editor of The Nation just said that the Saints or Lions will be playing in the Super Bowl. He said this on the MSNBC morning joe tv show today. He must be drinking that Honolulu blue koolaid

  • Wells please. That show spews venom from the liberal agenda. Not surprised a moronic statement was made from some uneducated hack. Next time please choose to post from a reliable news source.

  • An improved O-line and/or running game and this wouldn't be too far fetched.

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

I wouldn't expect anything less than "far fetched" from that source!

  • Its all about who is hot and who is healthy at this time of year. GB wasn't healthy, but they were hot at the end of the year. Detroit is, besides their RB position, relatively healthy. They are playing very well. I don't think they are a legit contender yet, but they will be.

On the other hand, who really wants to play Detroit right now?

  • In order for that to happen the Lions would likely have to beat the Packers@Lambeu and the Saints@Superdome. The Dallas/Giants game is going to be a tough one to win @Dallas/@New York.

    Lions over Giants.
    49ers over Falcons.

    Lions over Packers.
    Saints over 49ers.

    Lions over Saints.

  • Unless the cowboys/giants make it to the NFC championship game(not happening), will Detroit then have any shot of a super bowl. The falcons have a better chance(not happening), than Detroit. We all saw green bay slice through the defense. Our secondary plays too soft for Brees,Rodgers or Ryan not to dink and dunk their way down the field. And stafford doesn't turn it on until the second half, until an adjustment is made or if the running game is working. Not happening. Too many variables. Too "far fetched".

They score 28 points in that game (Less points than they average per game) and to be honest the Lions were going up and down the field on them, but they were committing silly penalties (aren't now) and Matt Stafford was playin with a broken index on his throwing hand. Also in the Saints game the lions held the Saints offense to 31 points at home (they average 36 points at home this season) with three starters out in the secondary and just like the Green Bay the offense commuted stupid penalties when they weee moving the ball on the Saints. Finally, the Saints and Packers are better teams than the Lions, but not as by as a margin as you are portraying now, and with the way Stafford has played in the last 3 games (9TD's 0 INT's, low 1000 yards passing) and throughout the season (36TD's, 14INTs, 4,600 yards passing) the Lions have a great chance to upset some teams in the playoffs and are the third best team in the NFC to me with the way they are playing.

  • Stafford in Lambeau, in January. Not a pretty thing. In fact, I'm not sure Brees in Lambeau in January will be such a thing of beauty either.

You believe that Joe Scarborough is a liberal?

I'm kind of curious as to what your definition of conservative is?

    Here are his conservative credentials:
    - Like most freshmen Republicans elected during the 1994 Republican takeover of the House led by Newt Gingrich, Scarborough was regarded as a reliable conservative. He was a part of a small group of Republican congressmen the National Journal said possessed a surprising amount of power given their youth and lack of experience in Congress. He received a 95 percent lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.[8] He signed the Contract with America.

    - Scarborough was one of a group of about 40 freshmen Republican legislators who dubbed themselves the "New Federalists" after the Federalist Papers. Scarborough was elected Political Director of the incoming legislators. The New Federalists called for sweeping cuts in the U.S. government, including plans to "privatize, localize, consolidate, [or] eliminate"[9] the Departments of Commerce, Education, Energy and Housing and Urban Development, but were largely unsuccessful in their goals. Gingrich tapped Scarborough to head a Republican task force on education, and Scarborough declared, "Our goal is to get as much money, power and authority out of Washington and get as much money, power and authority into the classroom as possible."[

    - While in Congress, Scarborough received a number of awards, including the "Friend of the Taxpayer Award" from Americans for Tax Reform; the "Guardian of Small Business Award" from the National Federation of Independent Business; the "Spirit of Enterprise Award" from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; the "Taxpayer's Hero Award" from the Citizens Against Government Waste; and the "Guardian of Seniors' Rights Award" from the 60 Plus Association

He's a small government, tax averse, pro-life, pro business ex politician with a career rating of 95% from the American Conservative Union.

Please let me know how you are more conservative than Mr. Scarborough?

The Red wings need to get bigger on the blue line and play our backup goalie. Tigers need to play more small ball. Pistons don't need a superstar they just need a team with good chemistry.

  • I see some parallels with the Cardinals team from a few years ago... Prolific passing game (good QB, ridiculous WR), no running game, decent but not dominant defense.

  • Pack have the huge advantage of Lambeau.

That said, pack have a majorly banged-up o-line. The running game will not be their for them in a game that is won in the trenches. And GB's D is not a D that can grind out an offense either in such conditions.

  • Any Lions fan has been saying every year that the Lions are going to the Super Bowl. Me included. They're winning it too.

    Holmes

  • The way to also look at it is this: Between NO and GB, I think most people can name 2 impact D players: Woodson & the HGH freak. Woodson may be hurt. When you live and die by your O, you are really puting yourself and risk and flying in the face of proven history.

Det is finally getting their DBs back, keep in mind against GB Davis was actually playing DB during crunch time, as Det had 5 DBs out, and Wendle was starting at safety. Now, Det has been able to sit Delmas and Berry even longer then expected, and you saw the difference Houston made- 2 picks and I believe 5 passes defended against one of the NFL's hottest QBs and best WRs.
