The Greatest Bar in E.L...

Hrmmmm, I can honestly say I never went to crunchy's once. It wasn't that popular and further away from all the rest of the bars. Back in my day, there was pretty much a schedule as to which bar you would go to between my friends.

Wednesday was half off at Harpers
Thursday to Burgerrama at Riv, then to PTs
    Friday to Rick's Happy Hour
    Saturday was usually PTs again
    Sunday was Riv $2 Mugs

Speckle in some B-Dubs, Landshark, House Party action

    Rinse, Repeat

I'm a student now and we're pretty much on the same schedule except pt's blows and we replace it with harpers and ricks

  • My least favorite is Harper's. Not sure why anyone would go there.

And yeah, Crunchy's is that good!

  • I spent a lot of time at Rick's back in the day.
$1 pitchers of Old Style for Friday happy hours.
Great tunes from Groovespoon, Surrender Dorothy, and YMI.
The more low-key scene was the 'Shark and Wally Pleasant. They had the best buffet spread for HH.

  • I feel like the bar that most felt like a "college bar" was The Riv. Especially during Burgerama, those were the greatest times I ever had. Waiting in line way too long, cheap pitchers, billiards, decent music, good atmosphere, fun crowds, good setup, etc.

I also enjoyed Peanut Barrel as a good start-off bar, although I would never stay there all night because I would want to use that two Long Island buzz elsewhere. Crunchy's and Dublin are fun bars as well. Never was a big fan of Harper's.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

Ahhhh, Wally. Totally miss that scene.

  • Whenever my crew goes back for games, we inevitably end up at B-dubs. We can usually catch the night games and it's not super crowded. I enjoy 23 oz drafts and I'm addicted to Carribean Jerk and Mango Habenero wings.

If we're going to "go out" then it's the Riv or bust. It's also complete BS that they charge cover; living in Chicago I can assure you that all but the chachiest clubs are cover-free. I always laugh my ass off when the place that used to be Troppos asks for $5 just to walk in. So lame.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Sorry we couldn't all go to Cornell, Andy.

I like Crunchy's well enough.. but I just don't get all of the love it's getting here..

maybe I go there too often...

Agreed. Crunchy's is fine, but it's nothing special.

If it weren't for Cornell we wouldn't have cabbage. Well, at least modern cabbage.

My recipe for buffalo wings remains the one I was given at the Shark almost 20 years ago.

    This.

Also, I really miss LouHas being right there across the street from tRiv. Go to 'Rama around 4, pretty drunk not long after and when 'Rama is over with, head on over to LouHas where you won't remember a thing. It was heavenly.

And like others have said, I like Crunchy's but living further east in EL, that's a hell of a walk. I've only gone to Crunchy's to actually drink once. Oh, and the Shark sucks.

  • No Post fans? I want there last week for the first time . I liked it compared to how busy the rest of the bars usually are but it was a weird crowd. Don't think I would go without a good group with me.

    (I think we're getting old)...

The sad thing is that when I was in college I thought most East Lansing bars were garbage. I hung out in Lansing at places like Dagwood's and Mac's a lot more.

I've never even been into the Landshark. Seeing the deuchebags in line for that place told me enough about the crowd, and the fact that I wouldn't have liked it in there.

  • Crunchy's is definitely a cool bar.

    I personally like:

PT's, tRiv, Dublin, Crunchy's, tPeanut Barrel

    Ok for me:

    Rick's, tPost

    Not a fan of:

    Harper's, tShark

    Three_Putt_Par

  • I dunno, man. There isn't a whole lot in this world that beats a rodeo burger and a couple beers with your friends on the patio at the Peanut Barrel on a nice summer day.

    WTF?

I was over the deuchebag Spring Break mentality of most East Lansing bars by the time I was 21. Plus I hate waiting in line for a bar when there are plenty of other places to go.

Places like Rick's and The Landshark weren't really my thing. Back in the day, I'd rather go to the Peanut Barrel, Mac's etc.

I have the luxury of not having gone to undergrad at MSU.. so by the time I moved here (almost 16 years ago now) the undergrad scene wasn't too appealing..

so I've never done the Landshark, The Riv, PT O'Malleys.. none of those places - haven't even been inside of them...

The Riv is fine. It's dirt cheap, and it's the only of those bars that I could really stand. They had pool and darts and burgerama and the cheapest beer in town.

I haven't been there in maybe 5 years though, and I can't say I miss it. I'd rather get an olive burger, chili, and a pitcher from Dagwoods anyday

    Shut your whore mouth.

Going somewhere else besides MSU for your undergrad is not "luxury," it's a mistake!

  • Before it became a gay bar (NTTAWWT), Paul Revere's had 32-ounce frosted mugs dirt cheap. And it was within stumbling distance for the East Siders. They need a few more bars on Grand River between Bogue and Hagadorn. Course, I haven't been down that way in awhile...
