The Michigan B.S. really pisses me off. Who have they played???

  • Seriously.

They were gifted the Notre Dame game, but okay...will give them credit for that.

    Beat Minnesota (2-8)
    Beat Northwestern (5-5)
    Beat Purdue (5-5)
    Beat illinois (6-4)

Their four Big Ten wins are a combined 8-16.

Their two losses are to MSU 5-1 and Iowa 3-3.

    They skip PSU and Wisconsin.

OSU and Nebraska are better teams at least.

    Also, 8 home games?

    What a joke.

You mean like how we beat a team that played in the Rose Bowl?

    sprtnbrn

  • I don't rip on a team for their B1G schedule. They play the games the conference assigns them. We made the most of our weak schedule last year. Michigan will most likly only beat the teams they're better than and not upset anyone.

Then they are looking at 8-4. The point is, as of right now, Michigan is a mid-level B1G team. They are being treated/respected as if they are a title contender.

My bluest of blue friends didn't think they would win 8 games this year!

  • The next two games will tell if they are a fraud or not. I suspect they will lose them both. By the way 8 home games is only one more than MSU. Despite our tougher schedule our wins are against teams with a combined 11-13 record in the B1G. We skipped PSU as well.

To be fair, we handed out 5 of those losses.

They absolutely are a title contender in the legends division. There are three. MSU, Nebraska and UM. We have the inside track, but UM is contending for it.

I would agree that in reality UM is a mid-level B1G team. I'd rank them with Iowa, OSU, etc. The fact is that the B1G is down this season and there aren't any elite teams. UM is benefiting from that. They also have a remarkably favorable schedule.

I think MSU, Wisconsin and Nebraska are the top tier of the B1G. tOSU, IOWA, UM, PSU and Purdue are the next tier. NW, Minn, UI and IU are the bottom tier. Our bottom tier is much better than most conferences though. With the exception of Indiana.

I think that's fair right now, though I think UM is pretty clearly better than Purdue. UM admittely doesn't have any great wins, but in contrast to most B10 teams they don't have in my mind any bad losses either. UM has an incredibly fortunate B10 schedule this year, no doubt.

Unfortunately for UM, their schedule looks a bit more difficult next year. My prediction:

v Alabama (in texas) - Loss
    v Air Force - Win
    v UMASS - Win
    @ ND - Loss
    @ Purdue - Loss
    v Illinois - Win
    v MSU - Loss
    @ UNL - Loss
    @ Minny - Win
    v NU - Win
    v Iowa - Win
    @ OSU - Loss

    6-6 (4-4)

We all know what that means; Delaney's office can expect quite a bit of mail next season re: bad officiating, thug ball, league conspiracies, wind, etc. etc.

As I was looking at the highest ranked defenses in the land, and noticed MSU sitting there at number 3 ... I couldn't help but notice your wolvies right up there in the top 20.

I don't care about the schedule, who/what/when/where they played. To go from basically a division 2 defense, where I'm not sure they could have stopped my kid's 8th grade football team from scoring, that's a hell of an improvement.

I don't think they brought in any all American's or stud freshman, so they are basically doing this with players that were considered by many to be the worst defense in UM history. Color me impressed.

We shall see how they stack up against some real competition soon.

Yup. And honestly, I don't expect the stats to change that much- Nebraska will put up some points, but its not like they are incredibly explosive, and OSU's offensive stats are deplorable. Agree that they haven't really faced many good offenses. Honestly, with how MSU's OL played I would say MSU has the best offense UM has played since ND.

UM is better than Purdue. I think that within that middle tier there is a hierarchy too. UM is on the upper end of the middle tier.
