The Most Boring "Top Ten Plays" Play

  • Back before BTN, the NFL Network, and NBA TV made ESPN obsolete, I used to wish they'd ban the diving catch in the outfield from their Top Ten Plays. They're all exactly the same: there goes the outfielder, here comes the ball, he's diving, and he catches it...that was fucking great, Scott. It sure was, Jon.

They could replay catches from other seasons and nobody would know the difference. Even golf putts have more variety.

BTW, I started this thread because I was too lazy to look for the thread dedicated to thoughts that don't deserve their own thread.

  • I like the plays where they have to go across their body to make the diving catch. That is extremely hard to do.

  • I found the outfield grabs to be more impressive than the 6-4-3/4-6-3 double plays or the simple throw from third base that they would show. That was more a testament to the fact the hitter wasn't running/was a slow 1st baseman than the actual defensive play.

  • I really think dunks are overrated and NOT top plays. Don't get me wrong, they are a crowd hyper but are they really a top play? is it really hard to dunk the ball when your 6'6" and got hops?

  • Agree partially on dunks and diving catches. Some diving catches are basic, don't require the guy to lay out, and like stated above if you're going across your body it can be tough.

Similarly, some dunks are awesome. A LeBron/Griffin fast break tomahawk is not, and is ridiculously easy for them.

  • I'd rather watch 10 generic diving catches than see anymore generic dunks by NBA players that barely need to jump to dunk as they drive past all 5 "defenders" who did absolutely nothing. God I hate the NBA.

Maybe not obsolete, but it's just not necessary anymore. Other than MSU games and Gruden's QB Camp with Cousins, I can't remember tuning in. I get better coverage of the sports and teams I want to see on other channels, without the clown parade of ESPN personalities - like the sweaty, fat man with the dumb nicknames and the guy who thinks it's more important to match his highlighter with his tie than to know the names of the players he's talking about.
