The Official Mad Men Season 5 Thread

Season finale of season 2 she tells Pete she gave it up for adoption when he confesses to her that he should have married her instead of Trudy.

    I don't know why I don't remember that.

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

I actually felt a little sorry for Don. He had one of his classic pitches, and it was all for naught because Joan already sealed the deal the night before. I knew it was going to happen because Pete was all about Jaguar. Jaguar or bust, in his eyes, and he told Trudy that.

That episode didn't go well for Don or Megan, as both seemed to lose a sense of self. Megan was hyped for a role that turned out to be a lot different than she expected, while Don got Jaguar but got them by doing the wrong thing -- and he lost Peggy amid all of this. Interesting that Freddie Rummsen helped spur Peggy away, and why were they even together at lunch to begin with?

    Other thoughts:

    - Lane is about to get screwed over bad. He is toeing the line between getting caught and getting away with it - What ever happened to Peggy's baby? Will the truth EVER come out? - Ginsberg continues to stand out, and Peggy leaving gives him even more room to move up in the company - Interesting conversation between Peggy and Ken, and Peggy telling him off - Roger not seeming too bent out of shape over Joan whoring herself

    Re: Freddie Rummsen and Peggy:

As I recall Freddy had a big hand in helping Peggy get her first copy writer credit. I believe it was for a lipstick and the tagline was, "A basket full of kisses."

Also she covered for him when he whizzed his pants before the presentation. I think he feels like a mentor towards her and she remained fond of him. Plus he might harbor bad feelings towards Draper and Sterling for pushing him out the agency they were at and facilitating her leaving my give him some sense of satisfaction.

nope, in this episode he mentioned that he was going to call SCDP and ask for her old job

and freddy isn't her mentor, Don was, they came right out and said it in the episode

he was nice to her and she stuck up for him when the others made fun of him, that's about it

obtw, Trudy + 'burbs is still >>> Peggy + city

We've got depth. We've got numbers.

Freddy was still crucial in discovering Peggy. Yes, Don was her mentor, but Way back in the first season, all Don saw out of Peggy was her being a secratary. It was Freddy who pushed Peggy and her 'Basket full of kisses' idea.

I think because of this, was why they were meeting about Peggy moving on to another company. She wouldnt openly ask Don, and Freddy was the next best thing in her development as a writer.

Not to mention, the returning characters seems to be a recent theme, with Kinsley's return in the last episode, haha. Who is next, Duck?

Correct, Freddy was a champion of Peggy and Peggy did come to see him as somewhat of a mentor.

We've seen Duck pop up. The only regular from the old agency that completely disappeared was Sal. Unless he pops up as the openly gay art director at Peggy's new place.

Sal was one of my favorite characters and I'd love to see him come back.

Holy shit! I forgot about Sal. The gay sex in the hotel room really screwed things up for him.

Never even got to have sex, just got kissed by a shirtless bell boy.

It was the a-hole from Lucky Strike that made a pass at him that screwed things up for him.

  • To be honest, I didn't think this episode was on par with all of the episodes this season... Until the last 15 mins or so.

  • Last two episodes have been nothing short of outstanding. Don's ups and downs are really making the finale a definite must watch. I sense something crazy coming on.

Don had a season's worth of emotions tonight alone.

Literally nothing would totally shock me at this point.

  • Holy shit. That was so much in the last 20 minutes of the show.

I'm still a little shocked they dropped the Peggy leaving bombshell last week and then didn't even acknowledge it at all this week.

And again Roger "and if he tries to intimidate you, I want you to punch him in the balls."
