The Official Mad Men Season 5 Thread

So was that the reason for the Bond song at the end? Or even foreshadowing?

I thought it was just Matthew Weiner giving a big FU to Drake and the YOLO bullshit lol

Edit: not really, I think it points to the resurrection of "old Don"

The Movie Don and Peggy were getting ready to watch was the original Casino Royale with David Niven as Bond.

Hopefully Peggy had some of that joint left over from her hand jibber buddy, cause that's about the only way to stomach that disaster.

That closing scene was so great, the contrast in the lighting, from "The Beauty" as Don walks away but into the camera to the bar. And the music was perfect, as a giant Bond nerd that hit the spot for me.

I think Roger was tripping again. Next season, he may turn up with a ponytail and in full tie-dye.

  • It was a far more reflective finale than I anticipated, and the Lane suicide is easily seen as the big season-finale moment. The last episode got us back in touch with the unhappiness of these characters, and when Don looks up at the bar, my sense was that was a guy I hadn't seen in a while. But we get a glimpse of what could be coming- Pete in the city, the return of the unhappy Don, Roger taking a lot of LSD, Peggy as Don Jr. For me, this was an odd season as the pregnancy of January Jones forced the writers to look more to the ensemble as Mad Men has been the story of that marriage. I also tend to think the fragility of the firm needs to be settled as having that as a central story has limited the character exploration that drives why we watch. As always, it's impossible to predict where this show is going, but with the end out there on the horizon, I cannot help but think Weiner and company begin building toward a vision for where we leave these characters.......

Probably next spring/summer. The reason there wasn't a season last year was because there were contract disputes with the cast (or was it the writers?) that set the schedule back.

I think it was the cast.

I think it was the cast.

it was a dispute with Matthew Weiner.

The negotiations were pushed into public view on Monday when two publications, Deadline.com and The Daily, reported that Mr. Weiner was objecting to AMC’s proposals to shave time off each episode (to add commercial time) and to eliminate two cast members (to save money).

In an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Weiner confirmed AMC had proposed cuts to the cast and a two-minute cut to the length of each episode. The cuts would, he said, fundamentally make “Mad Men” a “different show.”

“I don’t understand why, with all of the success of the show, they suddenly need to change it,” Mr. Weiner said.

He added later, “All I want to do is continue to make my show, and make it in the way I want to, with the people I want to make it with.”

will not return to AMC until early next year because of a negotiations with the show's creator.

  • Would anyone who knows more about Netflix than I care to hazard a guess when they'll have season 5?

I did find a site online that streams season 5 but the quality is terrible. Could barely get through the first episode.

Prob when Season Six starts. It always works out that way with Netflix and TV shows.

Season 6 premier is this weekend.
