Ah man, some guy got to pound some Hope Solo snizz? Life just isn't fair for the rest of us.

I didn't read the link(I read all about it last Olympics) so i don't if it was mentioned in the article but Hope solo admitted to sneaking an unnamed celebrity into her room and then sneaking him out. Whoever he is he will no doubt become the most talked about celebrity in the land once the word inevitably gets out.

  • ESPN is confident they'll never get the Olympics--so at least they're free to write a story like this.

Athletes have beautiful bodies and sometimes compelling competitive personalities, but if you're looking for people with a deep and rich inner life you're probably looking in the wrong place.

So you searched for and then bumped this thread to tell us that athletes who reach Olympic level are shallow people with no inner spirituality?

Methinks you have some major issues.

I don't have time to write in every thread that interests me. So when there's free time I look up the ones I missed.

Nobody can speak to someone's spirituality--or at least I wouldn't dare on a message board.

The link described the reasons for this best, I think. These athletes are frequently lonely people, cut off from family and friends, far away from home. But they usually don't think of it that way. They think of it as an adventure, in this case a sexual adventure.

Sexual adventurism is usually a compensation habit, imo. Anonymous or near anonymous sex, which is unquestionably a reckless behavior (emotionally if not physically), becomes a stand in for understanding of the self. Not understanding the self, people sometimes turn inside out, by attempting to make connections with people they don't know and they know won't hold them accountable for a dangerous or thrilling activity.

Like all powerful or noteworthy people, successful athletes frequently describe their behavior as something they're entitled to enjoy--a privilege. Entitlement and privilege are seen as rewards for the highly regimented and restricted lives successful athletes must live. They rarely control their schedule, diet, or the people they're around. Sexual adventurism is a privilege they have "earned" because of all the "responsible" choices they've made to that point.

But the choice of athletics itself is a kind of false choice. It isn't really a necessary thing like taking out the garbage or work or keeping your body clean. Sport is a highly artificial existence where excellence in their body trumps all other aspects of personality and development.

I enjoy sports and athletics as an observer, but I frequently wonder if the athletes enjoy it as much as they think they do.

I think Diodotus is trying to hijack the thread. It would be best to take decisive action against this kind of posting.

I don't have time to write in every thread that ...blah, blah blah blah blah....

An alternative explanation to the above might be that these athletes want to have sex, are aroused by the attractive opportunities surrounding them, feel the pressure of competition, are excited by the whole adventure, treat the whole thing like a vacation, and choose to cut loose with people they may never see again.

Whoever heard of twenty-somethings behaving like that? How about every single East Lansing weekend?

I was thinking Irish ski team since I used to race competitively. if the Cayman Islands could have a skier why not Ireland? Plus, to make the Irish team I just have to make it down the hill with my pint of Guinness intact.
