The Tigers would have very possibly won a World Series if they would have had enough sack to trade Maggs when they could have.

Ah yes the Matt Kemp for Magglio trade that 99% of the Tigers fans on this board said NO way in hell too. Also you Tigers fans were anti Porcello for Halladay. lol

54 games to see what you've got, 54 games to change what you've got, 54 games to finish with what you've got.

45 day plan? 45 days, 45 points plan to turn it around? We are going completely carbon neutral? What? (Insert wave and twirl with hand guns)

Never heard the kemp one. And it wasn't Porcello for Halladay straight up. The Jays wanted half the team.

Can't really disagree with you tonight Forbin. Pretty pathetic start to this season. Yes, its a long season, but this ship is not going to turn around without a change somewhere. The hitters are swinging at garbage night in and night out. There is just no discipline at the plate right now, other than Jackson. Zero. I can't believe Cabrera of all people is having such a problem. He looks frustrated, and Fielder seems so nonchalant about it all. To me it looks like there is a real lack of focus with most of the team. The bullpen sucking every other night doesn't help either. Last year the turnaround occurred when Knapp was released, and Fister was signed. Really the only thing that can be done to jump start this mess is firing McClendon or Leyland. Maybe I'm missing something, but that's how I see it. I just don't think this thing will fix itself.

I have to agree with this post. Something needs to be done to turn this around. Yes the players are not blameless, but they should have someone to answer to when they swing at bad pitches, can't throw strikes etc... Baseball is a funny game, where you can hit the ball 400 feet and have it be a long out, and then hit one 40 feet for a base hit, but it does seem odd that this team does not seem to give a shit. And that is on the manager. It looks to me like they are undisciplined at the plate and again the manager can call for the player to take. Or call for a hit and run with a pitcher that throws strikes and the player is taking on his own and getting rung up.

It just seems odd that managers get fired and teams get better, obviously the manager has something to do with wins and losses. However a lot of people like to blame the players and the players only. Hell the manager can call the pitch from the dugout if the pitcher is throwing a game he doesn't like or the pitcher doesn't know the hitters weaknesses. Hell someone teach Valverde a half ass pick off move, it doesn't have to be Kenny Rogers good just something to keep runners somewhat honest. Hell I don't care if the team gets into a brawl to get fired up. And stop resting players so much! Everyone but Avila should be playing every day. And when he isn't playing he should be DH'ing. Play Worth or Santiago at 2nd and just stick with it. Play Dirks in LF everyday. It is frustrating the team has talent but lacks fire from the top on down.

So how much would you say that Leyland would win with this team if they only did more defensive shifts while they are hitting .200?

My point isn't about shifting, without more. And, of course, I am certainly not advocating firing Leyalnd. I am just saying the Tigers need to create their own luck. Playing "conventional" baseball isn't getting that done. Leyland is responsible for strategic decision-making, so he is responsible there.

But as far as the bats, the Tigers lack serious plate discipline. Way too many fly balls, pop ups and strike outs. There seems to be no accountability when it comes to moving runners and scratching out runs. I'll lay the blame on the players there.

It's a long season. I'm not in panic mode yet, especially considering how weak the division is. But let's be real. The Tigers need to take a proactive approach, and I am not sure Leyland is that type of manager. He is a more things will turn around guy. And he is probably right. However, if they don't, Leyland isn't doing much to help the cause.

I'm beyond sick of the sunshine blowers. How long does this have to continue before you start to think it isn't 24 players all slumping at the same time? July? August? End of the year when they are 75-87? The are massive issues with this team that have to be addressed and my hope is that with Iitchs age and eagerness to win now, something will change. I blame a manager who continues to play a guy batting .100, that has shown 0 ability to manage a pitching staff and 0 ability to make in game, pre game, or post game adjustments and lacks complete self awareness when it comes to this team. Sunshine blowers keep defending it, but it's fucking bullshit.

Prospects with Porcello was what the the Jays wanted. They held all the cards but Halladay is one of the best.

  • At this point I seriously would rather the team be like it was circa 2002. They were more fun to watch.

What we've got is a team that swings at a lot of first pitches in the fucking dirt, a lot of second pitches in the fucking dirt, and for good measure, a lot of third pitches that high or in the dirt, take your pick. We have a team that makes up for its lack of speed with its inability to bunt the ball. We've got a bullpen that sucks 2/3 of the time (how many lead-off hitters has Valverde walked). As a matter of fact, how many walks has Valverde issued? We've got a rookie starter that hasn't been through a MLB season yet, and another that's prone to a melt down at any given time. We've got a stubborn manager who comes across like a defensive prick. Thank God they figured out how to fix Jackson. They finally did what the Yankees were trying to do when he was traded.

And if that's not enough, this team is built for power. Unfortunately, it plays in a fucking national park so big that Paul Bunyan would struggle to hit homers.

Finally, it looks to me like no V-Mart and no Maggs means no leadership. Who is getting the guys to come in early and take extra BP? To focus? Instead, they get drunk in New York and insult Jews. Its all pretty disappointing.

    Its five o'clock somewhere.

Only one guy got in trouble. Not "they". Young didn't have a single teammate with him. Several guys have been in to hit extra in Oakland.
