Question gents: does that dribble turd olineman on SCum have the stones to call Gholston "TOM" this season? Should be interesting to say the least.

He never called him Tom. Some dumbass poster on here claimed he "knew" what Lewan said but he was really just speculating. No one called him out on it until three or four pages later. No one who wasn't on that field really knows what Lewan said to Gholston.

  • FYI, after talking to some other mods and reviewing the Benenoch thread, we've decided to nuke the current thread and start a new one. Something like 2/3 of those posts would have to be deleted one by one, and now that he's a commit we feel it's easiest to just start a new thread to provide ranking/camp performance updates on him.

I initially wanted to just clean it up, but when over 50% (and closer to 70%) of a thread needs to be deleted, it just doesn't make sense to let it keep going. We're clearing the rubble and starting with a fresh foundation. It will be heavily moderated from here-on out.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Apparently, it can mean that now, yes. But on the old board it meant Quoted for Truth. IIRC, it was even included in a Cheat Sheet for Newbs. Things change. No big deal. smile_msu

Both uses have been common on the internet since the inception of the acronym. I'm sure one started before the other, but proving which was first now would be a futile effort.

Also, glad to hear the rubble of tDuff is being cleared away.

I don't think a new system is required; just less tolerance in tDuff.

Riley Norman's thread has become a discussion of shot putt technique, Olympic sports, other nonsense

Caleb Benenoch's thread has become a recap of all things Pittman related, name-calling, and a general flamewar. 90% of the posts there contain no information on the recruit himself.

Malik McDowell's thread has become a discussion about meltdown avoidance.

Cameron Dillard's thread has world+dog posting to tell the staff to 'lock him up' and wondering why he hasn't been offered etc.

This is the internet; without moderation there will be hubris. tDuff's mission is clear -- information on recruits only and nothing but information. Just delete all other posts. Delete first and ask questions later. What's the worst that could happen? One out of a 100 deleted posts might have actually had a tiny nugget of information and got accidentally deleted? Big deal. At least the integrity of the forum is maintained, and it doesn't hurt recruiting efforts.

There's also a potential effort-saving here. Deleting unrelated posts means there are less unrelated posts to respond to. Nip the Olympic sports discussions and recruiting hard-sell discussions in the bud before they become 5-page monsters. Some of that stuff has been brewing since Feb for crying out loud!

Ok - 24 hours later, I think I've come around full circle to appreciating how difficult this might be for the mods.

    In the last 24 hours.....

Caleb Benenoch's thread -- Martin Spartan actually rebooted the thread and added a reminder to keep it on topic -- immediately below that there are three posts with no information.

Malik McDowell's thread -- Rocky posted a reminder to keep the thread on topic. Immediately below that comes this gem: "Is there a timeline for when he might commit? I gotta think that the longer it drags out, the better our chances are of landing him", which leads to more replies with no information, etc. etc.

Delton Williams' thread -- BornToBeRed (who's usually a stellar poster) started the ball rolling with a question about our take on Nebraska's chance with Williams and 9 posts later it's a half-page full of general chit-chat.

There are even people that actively participated in this very thread, brainstorming the problem, but went back and bumped threads in tDuff with useless chit-chat less than 24 hours later. I might be wrong in pointing all this out -- I'm neither a mod, nor a VIP, but why do people keep on and on posting in tDuff when they have no new information? There's even a general recruiting thread at the top if you really have a general comment but no new info.

Mods -- you have my sympathies.

I don't see why you think McDowell's thread has gone off topic. Every post after Rocky's is discussing Malik's recruitment, and two of the four replies do actually contain information; one saying that USC coaches were there to evaluate him and one referencing an interview with ESPN.

I don't know what you (or the mods, I guess) expect out of those threads, but I think that the rules Martin Spartan laid out in Benenoch's new thread are bullshit. What's the point of having a thread if any discussion beyond "School X has offered a scholarship" or "He will be visiting on (date)" is considered off-limits? All that information is available on his 247 recruiting timeline. I don't understand what's wrong with discussing which coaches have gone to watch a player practice, what that player is saying on twitter (following a recruit on twitter and harassing him on twitter are two different things), talking about what players have said in interviews, or discussing an article about that player.

If discussion isn't allowed, what's the point of the fucking thread?

Agreed. Some people wet themselves if you start talking about the depth chart in a recruit's thread. Nevermind that the discussion of the depth chart is in relation to said recruit's position and likelihood for PT. But I wouldn't allow the walvies to post on tDuff at all. Maybe y2k but that's about it. Tenacious, bigm, xxxgoblowxxx are pathetic in their "observations"/

I think the mods need to adopt a zero-tolerance policy for outsider shenanigans on tDuffy. I don't mind some of the input from other fanbases, but the second they even come close to stepping out of line they need to get hit with the banhammer. Maybe that policy could be extended to posters with fewer than a certain number of posts as well, just in case some of them decide to go all Nucky on us and create a schtick pretending to be a Spartan fan.

Members-only is not the answer, but the non-MSU posters definitely need to be reigned in.

Posters never followed any kind of rules that were asked of them from the beginning. It's why I gave up on moderating the recruiting forums. Something I came up with and outlined. Recruit threads were always supposed to be for player updates and the general recruiting discussion was for discussion. People always feel the need to post useless shit like "oh man! Pick us Malik!" or "anyone got any news" or some other post that bumps the player thread to the top when there is no information about him. You delete those posts and it's "why was my post deleted?"...also posted in that thread. Then you get people trash talking Michigan and people who just post smilies and eventually it's 90% stupid crap and 10% actual info on the recruit himself.

We got more relaxed with the original rules, but the recruiting forums are useless to me now. Too many people post nothing worth reading. The least important thing on there are people's (not writers or insiders) opinions about a recruit, but that's what the threads turn into.

    The point is information.

There's a general recruiting thread for discussion. If somebody like CBD evaluates tape on a recruit and posts his evaluation, that's discussion that adds value. Discussion like "oh man, look at that offer list" is absolutely useless. Threads in tDuff aren't supposed to be bumped unless there's information. The reason should be extremely obvious -- the minute random discussions start, it becomes completely impossible for mods to keep the threads clean.

Disclaimer: As stated before, I'm neither a mod, nor a VIP. I just read the sticky at the top explaining the rules for posting on tDuff, and came to the conclusion that I wouldn't post there if I had nothing of value to add.
