The mass exodus of players from PSU football is beginning

Whatever your opinion on the PSU matter, you should read this letter from a Penn State prof.

    http://onwardstate.com/community/one-faculty-members-position-on-the-current-state-of-affairs/

Everyone should also ask questions about TSM organization because there have been some really disturbing allegations about them pimping out boys. You should also look into Spanier's past history at Neb and his friends out there.

Fucking sick. The penn state degrees aren't worth the the bird cage lining they're printed on.

"[PSU President Rodney Erickson] has committed the University to what is estimated to be something in the range of $72 million dollars in penalties, loss of continuing revenue from its football program (the least of our worries), and – most seriously – undisputed damage to the reputation of the University which could be forever in recovering. The damage he has done, in my humble opinion, is far worse than anything Graham Spanier ever came close to doing."

Man, they really don't get it. That's just sad. no

They obviously don't realize what suing the NCAA would have cost. It's not free and it would have taken months, maybe years, of lawyering up and litigation at a hefty fee. Any suit filed would have breached the consent agreement and the NCAA would have immediately slapped a 4-year Death Penalty on them. Without any kind of injuction to allow Penn State to keep playing (they wouldn't get it), they'd have lost a lot more than $72 million and they would have made all those small businesses in the area suffer as well while they fought in court over whether or not they can go to the TicketCity Bowl.

What it all comes down to is these people really just don't want to pay the piper. They want to forget child rape ever was allowed to happen on their campus and worry instead about depth charts and stopping Navy's triple option.

What got me about that quote, and specifically the part I bolded, was that the author said that the current PSU president had caused more harm to the school (by agreeing to financial penalties and sanctions that would degrade the school's reputation in the future) than Spanier had (by ensuring that a victim of child rape was not sought out and provided treatment, and the perpetrator was treated "humanely" -- e.g., by not being turned in to the police, the local child welfare agency, or the Board of Trustees for Second Mile -- which "humane" treatment permitted the perpetrator continued access to PSU facilities, used (according to a jury of his peers) for the purpose of grooming and abusing future victims).

    $ > Treating/preventing child rape. I don't get it.

I guess, more to the point, they don't get it. Truly sickening.

  • WR may be next. He was "second-leading" WR on the team last year, whatever that means:

And all the movement has caused another key player to take stock of his football future. Receiver Justin Brown told Rivals.com site SoonerScoop.com that he's received interest from Oklahoma. Brown was Penn State's second-leading receiver last year with 35 catches for 517 yards and two touchdowns. Oklahoma is in dire need of some experience at receiver after suspensions and academic issues have left the Sooners with just one receiver with a collegiate catch (Kenny Stills).

Losing Brown would be a huge blow to Penn State's chances to be competitive this year and might cause even more players to transfer. Redd was basically the entire running game and Brown is the best offensive target the Nittany Lions have left.

Why would you waste a scholly just to gameplan for a bunch of weebles? By the time the exodus ends, Penn State won't be competitive in high school football.

I look toward the their first B1G game against Illinois on 9/29. We'll find out a lot about PSU with that one. I have to believe there's no bigger target for PSU than the "Fighting-parking-lot-recruiting-crew" of Illinois (I just wish it were at Happy Valley). If PSU can't pull that one out, they're in for a long B1G season.

I think they'll be mentally beaten by that point. They'll win their opener against Ohio. Then drop at least 2 out of the 3 against Virginia/Navy/Temple.

Have to wait until 2015-16, which should be the worst PSU teams in 40+ years.

Oh, RS FR OG Ryan Nowicki to Illinois.

Quick breakdown of what this means.

8 total transfers have happened: Redd, Fortt, Nowicki, Fera, the safety I can't remember, Pollard, Bolden and the TE that's going to FSU. None are SRs.

PSU's "senior" class has 14 members.

That means, without another transfer, that PSU will lose 22 total players off their roster in '12 compared to '13. With the scholarship reductions in place, they can bring in no more than 15, leaving them at BEST 78 scholarship guys for the 2013 season. This also assumes that they were at the 85 man limit prior to this exodus starting; if not, well, lower that # appropriately.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • The rumor mill has now shifted to senior wide receiver Justin Brown and incoming freshman running back Akeel Lynch.

Brown has had contact with Oklahoma and is expected to meet with Penn State coach Bill O'Brien today, according to ESPN's Joe Schad. His decision could be forthcoming.

After losing the team's top two scorers from last season -- Redd and Fera -- Brown would be another big loss to O'Brien's new-look offense. Brown had more catches (35) last season than the rest of Penn State's returning pass-catchers (25) combined.

Lynch, a three-star recruit out of St. Francis (N.Y.) High School, becomes doubly important with Redd's departure. With Redd on the move to southern California, retaining Lynch would be a point of optimism for a fan base that sorely needs it.

Lynch is expected to decide between PSU and Iowa. That decision will come Sunday, according to HawkeyeReport.com.

  • PSU had 80-81 scholarship players before this. It was questionable between the two numbers. I don't really regard Haplea and Bolden as casualties as they were looking to transfer post spring. Fera's defection had a lot to do with a family matter. Redd, Fortt, and Pollard are the three big ones so far. Brown would be disappointing but won't affect the team long term being a senior. Buckley, the safety, shouldn't really count as the guy went from being a walk-on paying OOS tuition to a scholarship in his home state. Can't blame that at all.

  • Bolden's been trying to transfer for two years? Not an excuse at all. Haplea was looking at the end of spring after sliding down the depth chart. I was surprised by the lack of transfers we had due to a coaching change in the first place. If I remember correctly, we had one.

I don't understand why people are counting Buckley, since he wasn't a scholarship player.

Read Fera's exit statement if you think I'm making excuses.

I said everybody else hurts. And the worst could be yet to come. Lynch would be devastating.

Nobody has wanted Bolden for two years. But I never said we didn't want Fera, Redd, Fortt, or Pollard. All three either were playing a big role or would in the future. Anyone saying otherwise is in denial. I never said we didn't want Buckley, I just didn't get why he was getting such publicity on ESPN. Nowicki probably would have started one year or so, which is still contributing and important. The only other player is Haplea and I was never a fan of him.

So out of all the guys we lost there were two I didn't want: Bolden and Haplea. Bolden for obvious reasons and Haplea I never cared for.
