Huh. I got to thinking about it, and making a merge tool would probably be even easier than a notify mod button. The background work is literally as simple as updating a table with information from another table then deleting the thread. It probably wouldn't take an experienced programmer more than a half hour to write, test, and update. The interface might take a little bit longer, but the actual function is simple.

Even simpler than that...just update each post records' thread ID with the target thread ID. Time stamp on each post automagically puts everything in the proper order. Simple stored procedure with 2 inputs. Simple web page too. Old thread text box, new thread text box, & Ok button with an 'are you sure' step before commit. Throw in a little javascript to check entered data and display the old and new thread names & you're off to the races.

I'd allocate 1 day total for development & testing.

Multi-quote & report post are also ridiculously easy.

Noah posted on tBB that message board improvements are pushed back to 2013. As a whiny free loader I have but one complaint: no notify mod button. Most 247 boards get trolled pretty hard. I'm not talking about Tanfan or any other regular poster. I'm talking the lame schticks and other fan bases, as well as the losers who show up any time were losing a game simply to troll. It would be so nice just to have a button to click so the first available mod can take a look and see if someone needs a time out. It would also help poor Kitemac on tBB for when Mr. Maryland decides to drop the N bomb in the flame thread. As a novice programer, the programing is just so easy and the value do great I can't wrap my head around why they haven't done this.

From back in December I think, said board improvements are 12-24 months away.

    Liking the newest update!

Having our boards, inbox, ect... at the top at all times is great!

Eek, good point. Yes, that is the simpler solution. So the back end just needs to pull the two thread id's, and update all items with the thread id from the thread that is getting nuked to the thread id of the thread that is going on. So 3 minutes of code tops for someone familiar with the way the database is structured.

No that's not it. It was a thread about recruiting updates and someone (maybe it was another staff member, not Noah) said that message board improvements were coming in the early 2013 release.
Anyways, doesn't matter to me. The mod tools are the only thing I really think we NEED.

We're probably the only board that needs a merge tool. Maybe Bama and OSU, but they probably don't care. I don't see too many duped threads on tBB. And when I do, no one seems to mind.

I do so love your conspiracy theory lol I think you and Gomer are brothers from another mother.

I don't think it's a conspiracy... I think that running this place on a shoe string budget and pocketing the bulk of it is the actual plan.

Otherwise the limited progress here is based on either apathy or incompetence. Which do you think it is?

No. I think you believe that since the message board is lacking, there is "limited progress". Ths issue isn't that nothing is going on with 247. It's that it's nothing that you care about yet. Message board enhancements don't make them money despite how badly tRCMB wants them.

The conspiracy paranoia seems to be unfounded so far.

The "limited progress" is not perceived. It has been observed and stated.

They said there would be improvements. Then they said they could not implement them because traffic exceeded expectations and f'ed their piss poor database design all up.

They said there would be an iPhone app. Didn't they? It was in the works before we even moved over here according to Trevor. Where did it go? Two years to write an app?

Traffic makes them money. Doesn't it? VIPs just pay for the writers.

Doesn't tRCMB drive the traffic here? The message board part?

Not just more, we double the next closest board....That is a TON of page/ad views. Yet in the big scheme of things it gets Trevor nothing.

I was lead to believe this site was going to be so awesome by now I'd be getting a VIP beejer just for logging in.

You're not doing it right. To redeem your VIP beejer you need to go to any sorority house, show them a laptop displaying your VIP status on an internet message board and drop your pants. The rest of the beejer process just works itself out.

Look - this board is pretty much all it's going to be. I've stopped complaining and in return Trevor has stopped pretending things are going to improve. That's just the reality of the situation. This is now a recruiting site with some additional MSU content. End of story.

Yearly subscription(grandfathered in at a lower than normal rate from the old board)...So they already have my money.

Same here. And then about six months ago I got a PayPal notice that my spartan tailgate subscription renewed automatically. I never heard back after contacting the gmail support about it so I can only assume I got extended here again.

I had no problem paying on the 'old site' because it was supporting Trevor's efforts. I was happy to pay. This is different.

People see what they want to see. I see the stuff that that have been doing with the recruiting DB and that side of the house. You don't see message board improvements. You see someone that is concerned about the state of affairs on a college sports message board site. I see someone who hasn't stopped whining in 17 months. lol

I don't know what is going to happen here, but my feeling is that absolutely everything else is more important than the message board. Nobody buys subs to a message board (unless you're a fricking weirdo on tRCMB) and even though traffic generates a little money, it's never been enough to drive a network. It couldn't do it on the old board either. If it could, we would have never had memberships over there either.

So tRCMB did change. It was a MB that was a place for MSU alum/fans to gather adn talk about things in an easy and creative way, and is now a business that focuses on male teenagers. Instead of the focus being the community it is recruiting.

I see they work on the recruiting DB.

I also saw everything related to what they said was going to happen but did not.

I see that the board "upgrades" they do implement are poorly thought out garbage. They cared enough about the message boards to code a confirm button for downvotes FFS.

I see that Trevor says our subs pay for Spartan Tailgate writers, not the 247 Network. If subs don't pay for the network, then traffic must. We bring the traffic. We pay for the network.

lol That's like blaming the drivers because a go-kart race isn't as compelling as a NECKCAR race.

    1. There is no more vBookie content.
    2. The lack of rich text formatting limits content.
    3. The lack of multi-quote limits content.
    4. The lack of post reporting absolutely kills content at times.
    5. The inline pic issue is a killer as well.
    6. Dogshit search function & no forum spy make it very difficult to track items you're interested in.

None of those things that you listed are actually things that stop people from being entertaining or valuable posters on here. Those are crutches. We didn't even have most of that through the best times on the board (for me) in the early-mid 2000s. There was no vBookie, no multi-quote, no forum spy, no arcade, and yet somehow, the board was awesome. It wasn't a hundred parody threads a day or a stupid photoshop of Mike Hart (OMG LOOK NOW HE"S IN A CLAM!) it was just people posting. This board transitioned from an MSU server, to Rivals.com and then to its own server and somehow managed to thrive. Maybe people on the board now are just pussies.
