This time of the year sucks for sports

  • Euro2012 is right around the corner
PGATour is hitting its stride with some great tourneys coming up
    Baseball option every night
    Stanley Cup Finals

  • As a huge golf fan, that takes up a lot of my summer TV for sports (U.S. Open, British Open, PGA Championship) as well as Tigers baseball

Throw in 2-3 rounds a week for myself on the course and the summer just flies by

yeah, I hate when I can't just sit in front of the TV watching sports while eating chips all day...

Would much rather be posting on an internet message board dedicated to something you have no interest in, right Bob?

yep - hard to ride my mountain bike in my office..

    Funny you should say that.

I've recently joined this mountain biking message board. Since I have no interest in mountain biking, all my posts are super condescending and point out how trivial mountain biking is in the grand scheme of things. This message board is dedicated to one specific mountain biking brand, but posters frequently bring up information about a rival brand (talk about an inferiority complex!) and whenever they do, I just post a knowing smiling emoticon. People on this mountain biking message board have really warmed to me and I think they're enjoying my contributions.

do they have posters who regularly participate in cyber-bullying, misogyny and obscenities without consequence or repercussion?

Is it a slower game? Sure. Is it boring? Just about as boring as a great film, epic poetry, or a superb 80 minute symphony.

The worst is around the corner... Little League World Series. I really do not want to watch 9 year olds from Arkansas take on 9 year olds from Wyoming.

Don't forget the 9 year olds from whatever state playing the 15 year olds who have facial hair posing as 9 year olds from Mexico/Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic etc.

  • I'm a Tigers fan but don't get too emotionally invested in the team and don't plan my day around their games. If I'm home and the game is on, I'll have it on in the background while doing other stuff.

I'm pretty much obsessed with MSU football and basketball which consumes a good deal of my time from September to March/April, so it's nice to get a break from that and enjoy summertime. Plus the long layoff makes you more excited and anxious for the start of football season which allows you to appreciate it more.

  • NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs & MLB in full swing; if this is a bad time for sports wait a few weeks when all we have is 1 of those 3.

  • I'm a big MLS fan so that usually tides me over until football season. Like mentioned above, Olympics and Euro12 will help this summer as well

  • I happen to be a big NBA fan, so for me the dark time in sports starts on that night in June when the NBA finals ends. I'm always a bit sad, knowing that there won't be any sporting events that I really care about until September (I follow baseball, tennis, golf, etc., but I can't get worked up about any of them). But on the other hand, it's nice to have a few months where when you make plans, you don't have to keep the broadcast schedules for all your favorite sports in mind so that you don't schedule on top of an MSU basketball game or a playoff elimination game or whatever.

Did you know the only college based on the Maharashi's teachings is 20 miles from my hometown in Iowa. (in Fairfield) My favorite filmmaker David Lynch meditates there every year.

Well, you did direct me to Hanekes first film, and he just won his second palm d'or at Cannes in 3 years. The guy is incredible.

it was pretty clear by the end of the 3rd quarter last night that the NBA has already fixed the Miami/Boston series and Boston is screwed

How when Miami only shot two more free throws than Boston? (The techs called on Ray Allen and Doc Rivers were outrageous though). Plus Miami won by 14 so it's not like it affected the outcome of the game. Anyways, besides basketball there is not much I like to watch sports wise on TV. This is more of a time where I work a bunch of hours to make some money and just hang with friends and party.

Yeah, I am a huge Miami hater, and there was some terrible reffing in that game (which has unfortunately been too common in these playoffs) but the reffing had nothing to do with Boston's loss.

Boston is an old team and has key players nicked up, and stupidly failed to close our Philly in 5 or 6 games. Miami is a younger team and had more rest. There's already a talent gap between Miami and Boston (I mean, Miami, outside of LBJ, played a relatively poor game and still won by 14), and then you have Boston on a 48-hour turn-around from a close-out game going on the road vs. a Miami team that's been resting for four days. What do you think is going to happen?

Miami was going to win that game, regardless of some horrid calls from the officials.
