Ties to MSU Law

  • RCMB,
Do any of you have any significant ties to MSU law? I am a 2L at the University of Detroit Mercy and desperately want to transfer into MSU for the Spring Semester. This would be the last semester that I would be able to put in an application for transfer. Help a fellow MSU grad out. Thanks

    James Dean

  • I'm the admissions director. Does that help?

    Brodson

  • I wish

    James Dean

  • I'm the admissions director's broker.

Send me $5k in bearer bonds and I'll make this work out for you and the director.

  • What exactly is it you are looking for?

$5k? Come on bro. You can't do better for that 40% commission? Let's make this work for both of us.

  • I have wanted to attend law school at MSU since I was an undergrad. Furthermore I recently started a job at a personal injury firm in Lansing and it would be so much more convenient if I did not have to drive to Lansing from Detroit twice a week with a full class load. Unfortunately I was denied admission to MSU law when applying as an undergrad and would do anything to go there.

well what the fuck are you expecting?? Someone on the board to magically make you a student?

As I said, why dont you call the admissions office and see what you can do.

Oh wait, posting on a message board full of sarcastic jackasses is probably a much better way to go.

I just talked to admissions today fuck face. It doesn't hurt to explore all of your options, even if they are last shot resorts. It's not like I am putting all of my eggs in one basket via a message board. Asking for help from people who may have some sort of connection to the school does not hurt, especially for someone like me on the fence.

    Sorry James Dean

I guess Brodson isn't in the best mood today.

they told me to apply, DUH. What do you expect them to say? I could have a pulse and they would tell me to apply just to take my application fee.

Connections. First good rule of thumb as a lawyer. I like it that you put yourself out there. The ones criticizing you just don't get it. The rest of us in the real world understand.

The school and I aren't exactly seeing eye to eye right not on how much money I should be sending them every month .... so I'm pretty much worthless.

Call and ask for a 10 minute meeting with the dean, or dean of admissions. That's how I got a transfer into Madison at MSU. I blew them away with personality (and begging), because no way I should have gotten in, given my grades the first two years of college.

    VanWilder

  • You couldn't get into MSU Law? Jesus... you should just quit now. I hope this PI firm you're currently clerking for will make you an offer, because people who didn't transfer but started at MSU law aren't getting jobs

    GuiltyPleasure

  • Good luck James. Hopefully you don't have to keep making the drive but at least UDM Law is a good program as well and it sounds like you have something lined up when you're done. I went to UDM for Dental School and the wife was at MSU for Grad School. I put well over 50K miles on my car in 1.5 years.

    Thanks VW,
At least everyone on here isn't a complete prick, with nothing else to do except insult a hard working law student.

maybe they don't want you because you have a tendency to act like a helpless douche.

In reality, I'm quite certain they are hesitant to accept late (2L) transfers because you don't have the same foundation as other MSU law students.

    Brodson

  • Try meeting with the Dean of Admissions (or the general Dean) after calling a couple of times. The people I know who transferred between law schools did so by explaining their reasons for wanting to transfer (things like being near family, job offers, etc) and it generally worked out, as long as they had decent grades and everything at the first school.

  • If you have grades and everything whats wrong with just applying?
