Seriously. Complain about the call at 2nd, but the play shouldn't have been close. The throw to 1st shouldn't have been off the bag. We are too poor defensively at 3rd and 1st for our SS to have his head up his ass in a tie ballgame.

    lol wut?

That play was guaranteed to be close. It was a soft grounder and Castro was blazing to first. Peralta had to go fast but he threw himout nonetheless. The ump just booted the call.

There are lots of close plays. Tonight the guy at first got the game deciding call wrong.

Time for Ilitch to double his payroll or gut the team. Too much money spent for these continuous pathetic outings.

    Can't do it.

We're stuck with what we've got. You can't just cut guys. You still have to pay them.

We are too poor defensively at 3 of the 4 IF spots (assuming Ramon is playing the other one) to have any chance of playing in October. This is as true today as it was on Opening Day. Why the Tiger brass continually chooses to underestimate the importance of defense is beyond me and borders on incompetence.

People have to want your players.

Here are the guys people might want:

    Cabrera
    Verlander
    Fielder
    Fister
    Benoit

    That's it.

  • The Tigers fucking suck.

    ByTor20084

  • Or the ump could just make the easy and correct call. It wasn't like he missed a bang bang call like at first. He blew an obvious call

The call at 2nd wasn't that the runner beat the throw, it was that Santiago was off the bag (signaled by the umpire).

We all watched the plays. I don't need a recap. Peralta threw both guys out. Leyland chose not to defend his guys (which might have made a difference on the second call). Either way the umps blew it. It's not debatable.

Of course if the expensive offense was so inept it wouldn't matter.

  • WTF did the Cubs hit more than 3 balls out of the infield all night.

No one would want Fielder and his contract. Only Ilitch wanted those terms

    I said "might want".

There aren't many guys on this team that would draw interest. Maybe Jackson, too.

  • Wait...you guys are complaining about the umps? Both calls were correct. Neither Santiago or Fielder were on the bag.

    Leyland's fault. Like clockwork.

You really think the umpiring crew would overturn either call?

Of course they're not going to overturn the calls. But if you whine about the first one you sometimes get more favorable calls on subsequent close plays.

I like Leyland. But he should let the umps know when they blow calls. Jhonny threw two guys out (not smoothly, but he did). Jim shoulda said something.

Idiot, of course they wouldn't, but they would have it in the back of their minds for the 2nd blown call. Leyland goes nuts at times after the game is out of reach, but he won't do it when it really matters. Tonight it mattered, and he didn't do shit. It could have made a difference. Both calls should ALWAYS go to the defense, they weren't even close in that respect.

so the Cubs got 1 run after some bad calls and the Tigers got a 3 run rally after a bad call. Take those away and the Cubs still win, both teams are lousy, only difference is Cubs are in a total rebuild mode.

Tie goes to the defense? News to me.

So we are blaming the game on Leyland? Is that the consensus? Awesome.

Come on, you know the drill.

It's constantly Leyland's fault. His fault Max threw a batting practice changeup. His fault Peralta made back to back garbage throws.

The elements for a loss were there tonight-the wind was blowing in, no homers were leaving the yard. Tigers had to play better and they made just the right amount of mistakes to lose.

Quite frankly I don't care if they were on the bag or not. Both were very routine plays where Peralta should have made a better throw so it wasn't in the umps hands. Two easy plays where he should have hit the guy in the chest and he screwed them both up.

You haven't been reading carefully. Let me help you.

    1) The call made on the play where the go-ahead run was scored was mistaken. So was the call on the preceding play. The UMPS are to blame for that.

    2) Leyland might have been able to affect the call made on the go-ahead run play by commenting on the first call.

I am "blaming the game on Leyland?" No. But he could have argued and given his team a better chance. That's all I'm saying.

You may not care whether they were on the bag, but that's all that actually matters.

And they were on the bag. The umps blew it.

So there is no blame on the players tonight? Interesting. Outside of the top of the 7th they looked like shit.

Also, like someone else mentioned, I love everyone seems to conveniently overlook the Delmon Young call at 2nd that sparked a rally to score three runs in the 7th.

Of course the players are to blame. The "blame" here is shared by the umps, the manager, and the players.

    Madison Spartan

  • This team wasn't designed to win when they only score 3 runs. (in non Verlander starts)

Still tough to swallow when the defense not only fails to make great plays, but botches routine ones.
