I was on mgoblog a minute ago, Tom Gholston is considered a legitimate nickname for Gholston. Tom.
Is this like legitimate? We're using early 1900's racism to attack 19 year olds? Can I call Darius Morris a 'buck-toothed coon'? Can we call Denard (excuse my language here) N***** Denard? Is that any worse?
Are they aware that this falls terrifyingly straight into the stereotype of UM fans as fat, white, Downriver, 1950's union workers?

It's a reference to a recruiting story. When Gholston took a visit to UM, the coaches called him "Tom" the entire time; he said later that he wasn't going to commit to a school and staff that couldn't get his name right. It's not the "Uncle Tom" racist remark.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Rocky- I've heard that story before. But let's be real with ourselves here. That story is never remembered if not for the racist overtones. If they called him 'Jack', that story would have NEVER caught on by the UM fanbase.

No, no. He was ready to commit to UM but was turned away due to grades and behavior issues.

What I've never understood is they make fun of him with that term when the reality is that it costed them a 5 star instate product who has terrorized them in his first 2 seasons. To me that story should be an indictment of the Richrod era and not something UM fans should want to celebrate. It would be like us using a story from the Bobby or JLS era to taunt a Michigan player.
