Tom Izzo: a "weaker society" favors confidence over competence

  • blanch32 said...

Hence the reason izzo loves my posting style: sheer toughness from all the abuse boners and how I do not let the rods and their direct suspension of enforcement of the guidelines when it comes to my post affect my gm one bit.

Actually, you do in fact suck. But this is a premium post.

  • It's true. You learn more from your losses than your wins. Hopefully you will have less losses than wins.

  • To some degree, I think if the football team hadn't lost that heart-breaker the week before and was still in the hunt for the B1G Championship, there wouldn't have been such a harsh reaction to the UConn game. Don't get me wrong, there will always be those that flip out at any loss or even a close game. But I think even some more level-headed folks, not part of tRCMB, took the UConn loss harder than usual. But I agree with Izzo, overall the loss will probably help them more, for example, last year after losing the first two games. Hopefully the team maintains the confidence they should because there's a ton of talent on that floor.

I read it three times. It still doesn't make any sense.

I was Phi Beta Kappa and in the Honors College.

It's possible your failure to understand me is my fault. But I don't think it's likely.

rumor Izzo actually referenced you later in the article, when he said...

"We won’t have false impressions about who we are."

  • We have so many Nancies/trolls/Master Baiters on this board who give up after one or two tough, early losses year after year. It is pretty amazing how, after 18 years, little our fans comprehend there is a method to Izzo's manic schedule.

Personally, I would like to see more of these tough match-ups at the Breslin, but I'm tired of complaining about it.

Just win (after December, I guess) and I'm satisfied.

  • I just say the same thing every time someone criticizes these early games. We play for March, so far, Tom Izzo's teams rarely prove me wrong.

    Also, where's the threat?

Losing hard, close games teaches you how to win in March....

“If we’re that weak that we can’t take a loss or we can’t take the mental anguish that goes with it or the community is negative, we’re not going to be a good team anyway,” Izzo said. “So I have no panic on everything right now. I’m just disappointed that we didn’t play as well enough as I think we can.”

Pffftt...I'd rather listen to old, out of shape, has-been, want to be armchair coaching experts (since they coach their daughters 3rd grade travel team) on this board than a hall of fame coach with multiple championships. Demand Excellence!!!!!

+1 for charting your course and sticking to it. You never disappoint anyone when it comes to "dumb".

I'd encourage you to re-read my original post.

    Here it is....

"Why is it so ridiculous to want to play a difficult nonconference schedule AND to win these tough games every once in a while? Almost as disturbing as the feelings of entitlement in the community are their opposite: that it's okay we lose these high profile early games every. damn. year. And the magical thinking that says it doesn't hurt our national reputation that this is always the case."

So once again, where did Izzo or any real Spartan say "it's okay we lose these high profile early games every.damn.year."

    Still hanging up and listening....

"Leave the gun.....take the cannoli" "It's not your job to be as confused as Nigel."

It is tough to get any team to come to the Brez..

Meanwhile, we go to Kansas, Texas, Duke, Carolina, the Citadel, at Bradley, at Gonzaga, etc. etc.
