Top Ohio QB Talks Michigan State

Arguably the No. 1 2014 quarterback in the state of Ohio says Michigan State is one of the top schools on his list.

  • This will be really interesting to see what happens with our QB's down the line because Dantonio is taking one every year.. It is more than likely that one of our signed QB's transfers out because that is just the nature of the QB position at every college. Between Cook, O'Connor and Terry, that will be a heated battle for who starts 2014.

Coach Dantonio and staff have made it pretty clear to recruits that they want 4 QB's on scholarship at all times. If a recruit is worried about immediate playing time... then MSU is not the school for you. (Now if your clearly the best guy then you'll get the job~Cousins) Maxwell is a Junior RS and is finally getting his start... and he was an Elite11 guy.
But with that being said, Maxwell knows this offense and will come out WAY more mature then any first year starter in the FBS. The continuity of this staff and the playbook are perfect for QB's that want to make it to the league. True students of the game like Maxwell will show why MSU is reloading not rebuilding.
Warner is an amazing position coach and has the track record to pull in bad ass prospects so I don't see MSU's QB recruiting dropping off anytime soon.

~We're all armchair coaches & 20 yrs of mediocrity before Dantonio has turned us all into pathetic sociopaths who know no joy or excitement~

Exactly, you are spot on. I am just saying it will be unrealistic to think all of our QB's that we sign will eventually see the field. It will not happen but it will definitely bring out the best in the group of talent that will battle it out for the starting job in '14.

  • It's interesting to hear that one of the NFL knocks on Ringer was that he had too many reps. With a QB, you only need one year to showcase. And if it comes later in your Crewe, that might not be a bad thing be,side you haven't taken the hits.

Of course. If every QB that we signed was guaranteed to start at some point, that would mean we have a first-year starter, who is also a senior, every year. That would never happen. By consistently signing 1 QB each year, you have up to 4 QBs available each year, with a 5th redshirting.

Take into consideration factors like transfers, burnouts, guys going pro, disciplinary issues, etc. and you'll usually have 3 QBs available, with a 4th redshirting. 2 out of those 4 likely emerge as better than the other 2, and a QB may get his first start as a junior. That's the type of system I'd prefer.

    Next question.

Actually, pro scouts really value college experience at the QB position. Running back is a spot where you can showcase your skills for a year and get drafted high because it's much easier to identify the skillset needed to play that position.

Obviously there are lots of exceptions to the rule, but if you look at successful QBs in the NFL, the vast majority started for multiple years. That makes sense, they're good so they played a lot in college, but if you also look at the 1st round busts you'll see a ton of guys that started for one year and went pro.
