Travis Trice:potentially the best diamond in tRough since MoPete

Isn't that pretty much the theme of what everyone is already saying? Or do you think you're breaking new ground here with that comment?

You apparently missed most of the posts in this thread, as well as the rest of my post...

I love how someone brings up the fact that he has 0 assists in the last 2 games, and everyone just comes up with excuses about it. Don't let facts get in the way people. Again, he's very good, but he's still a freshman with a lot to work on. Let's just give it a few games here.

I wouldn't really call it excuses. I've watched the games so I know he's played very, very well. I'm not going to let some stat override my own opinion.

He's played better than everyone expected, but hasn't yet shown the ability to be a great PG. He's shown flashes of potential. Potential is great, but I prefer the real thing. Honestly the one thing that's stood out to me with Trice is his shooting ability, not his passing ability.

That's the point of the thread.

Really? Haven't seen many people saying "Yeah, Trice is better than I expected." Most of the posts I've read have been "Trice is the best player I've ever seen," and yes, that's hyperbole. Anyways, people can just keep quoting parts of my posts out of context for the sake of argument. Don't look at the whole comment or anything...

  • This "gotta have a ton of assists" stat is not what Izzo expects of his PG. The whole team gets assists because it's how the plays are designed. He wants this: running the offense (run the floor? slow it down?), setting up the plays (knowing what to do and when to do it), pulling out of the play when it's not working and starting over ("OK, Day Day, gimmee the damn ball and let's not force it"). Assists will come their way, but this team has sorely missed having a QB out there, and Trice will do very nicely, thank you, in that regard.

No one said he was a great pg... everyone is raving about how good he looks, especially for a freshmen... against some of the top teams in the country. Its not like he was a John Wall 5 star hyped out of high school, he was a meager 3 star and most people were huh when Izzo offered him.

Hes shown great poise and like you said flashes of potential. He does have the potential to be a great pg with time, practice and experience. Hell, it seems hes way above where Neitzel was his frosh year.

I love the way he plays and runs the team... yesterday he threw a lot of tough passes right on the money(which were botched)... I remember watching the Carrier classic and coming away impressed with him and overall the team runs more much efficiently when hes at the point

No, I didn't. Nobody here thinks Trice is a finished product. People are excited about what he's shown to this point, as well as his potential. Why would anyone have a problem with that?

Marcus Taylor distributed the ball better as a frosh. He averaged just under 4 assists in his first season with MSU.
